You've drawn me in and I'm fascinated now to find out more about this period in Romania. I would have been about 13 when the Soviet Union was disbanded, but it was mainly news abut the Berlin wall coming down that we heard so much about in the UK. I realise that we were very much insulated from most things in eastern Europe over in the west.
It's fascinating that this is all fairly modern work as it copies the opulence of much older periods. It feels superficial given the situation of the rest of the people in the country and almost as if they were gloating. Fireplaces that didn't even function, gold plated baths?!
Like Tikotiko, I'm curious as to what happened to the family after 1989.
First of all thank you for reading my post,.
The Ceausescu's had three children Zoia Ceausescu, Nicu Ceausescu and Valentin Ceausescu.
Zoia Ceausescu passed away in 2006, Nicu Ceausescu also passed away in 1996 and Valentin Ceausescu is still living today in Bucharest and is 74 years old.
Although during the communist period the children of the dictators enjoyed luxury and opulence, after 1989 their situation changed radically.
A good example that things can change at any time. Thank you, this has been very interesting.
I'm so glad you liked my post. Have a nice Sunday.
