Exploring around the old centre of Calpe (Spain)

Calpe is a city that lies on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It is not far away from the place I live, and actually, you may already see the road I take every time I go there. Rocky formations and those tunnels lead me to that paradise. The sun rises on the horizon and my Sundays start witnessing that miracle. I can see it over the huge mirror - the sea. That is where I have my morning gigs, on the part of the city that is by the sea. It's almost a year that I am having that job in the Hotel {if something you like and enjoy, like playing the piano, can be called a job ;)} and I always go just to that part of Calpe. Strange, but I have never visited the old centre, the antique part of it - until today.

IMG_20221029_101530.jpg

I didn't even know that it has the remains of a stone wall from the 14th century. It was the wall that protected and surrounded Caple at that time. It has a cylindrical tower, tall walls and a gate. I have never imagined that for this city, knowing just the skyscrapers and tall hotels that I usually pass by. However, there is always a first time for everything, so for my exploring around that old part of the city too.

IMG_20221029_101832_BURST4.jpg

The "culprits" for this experience are my colleagues - two singers. We agreed to meet at 10 a.m. today in front of the church where we had to play at a wedding ceremony. We got booked a week ago, and it was a crazy week preparing the new songs that the bride and the groom asked for. Well, we learned everything perfectly, but we wanted to meet and practice at least once together.

IMG_20221029_101907_BURST11.jpg

So, I was there, and my son too in the role of the violinist, but the two singer colleagues were late. Not just a few minutes... So, I had thirty minutes to look around and see how the little square around the church looks like the antique walls and the narrow streets. And how they would be on a Saturday morning? Empty! They were empty.

IMG_20221029_101722.jpg

IMG_20221029_101504.jpg

There was a museum that was open, but I thought I would not have enough time to visit it too. In the end, I think I would have the necessary time, still, I didn't want to risk so I just passed by it.

IMG_20221029_101437.jpg

I went back to the little square inside the protection walls where the church was located. No, my colleagues were still not there, but an antique car yes and the florists that were decorating it.

IMG_20221029_100352_BURST1.jpg

This is the church - our meeting point. The florists were working on the decoration but no one else was around.

IMG_20221029_100219.jpg

The final result of the old car! Later, the groom, the bride and the guests came with it here (of course in turns as just two people can take seats there).

IMG_20221029_103130.jpg

Realising that I still have time and no rehearsal will take place soon, I ventured into exploring the surrounding streets too. Not a big difference in the number of people around. Sleeping citizens and closed bars and restaurants.

The name of this very cool-looking bar is Lapsus bistro. In the previous two photos, you could see some close details, and this is what the whole building looks like.

IMG_20221029_100853.jpg

On the other side of the building, there were still interesting details, like a painting on the wall, a blue concrete bench, attached to the house and interesting plant pots.

IMG_20221029_101228.jpg

IMG_20221029_101005.jpg

Next to Lapsus bistro, there was a wall with a family tree, painted but the photographs of the people were real, framed and hung on the wall. Very nice idea and realisation of it.

IMG_20221029_101024.jpg

Seems that people in Calp like to paint their houses, and not let them be just one-coloured. Apart from these paintings on the walls, I saw this house with painted details on the facade.

IMG_20221029_101842.jpg

Decorated passages were not strange to see either.

IMG_20221029_101925.jpg

Some paintings were hanging down from several balconies. Alegría, which is written here, means happiness!

IMG_20221029_101109.jpg

IMG_20221029_101054.jpg

A cute mailbox with a bee :)))

IMG_20221029_100950.jpg

One of the very nice surprises was the digital information board about the city.

IMG_20221029_100645.jpg

Just with one touch (well, with maybe more than one, you can read where to go, what to do, where to eat, Abit of history and similar. And all of that is available in several languages.

IMG_20221029_100656.jpg

IMG_20221029_100554.jpg

You can choose between Spanish, English, German, French, Dutch or Valencian to learn about Calpe.

IMG_20221029_100610.jpg

My last stop was the church where we had our performance during the wedding ceremony. The colleagues arrived so we entered to have a rehearsal before the ceremony started. There were two parts of the church, a new, wide space with a lot of light from the windows on the ceiling. The other part was the old building, more intimate and with less windows. That is where the wedding was held.

IMG_20221029_103545.jpg

As usual, the benches are decorated with flowers. Small details that make the place nicer!

IMG_20221029_115025.jpg

IMG_20221029_115011.jpg

In the end, it was good that I had that time to explore. The new part of the city of Calpe is very well known for me, but I am glad I had the opportunity today to meet the old centre too!

What a beautiful place Calpe is, but notice that it happens to me like many places you visit, I know that the nightlife in those places must be fabulous, in fact seeing this small town or part of it, I assume that at night it must be amazing, I love how cozy the place looks, plus that fortress gives a special touch to the place, because not only you have places to eat or pray, but you have museums and bars; in short you have everything at hand to have a good time !!!

I loved its streets, especially that little passage where you see the pizzeria and then you get to Lapsus Bistro that with one of the paintings on its doors hints that there is live music there 🙌😀💛!!!!

My dear @mipiano, I hope everything went very well during the presentation at the wedding, if I would get married soon and live in Europe be sure I would tell you to play at my wedding and your son too who already accompanies you in your adventures, that's very cool, I wish you many successes 🌹💖!!!!

I send you a big hug, it has been a great pleasure to visit you after days without doing so, I love your photo posts, you manage to capture the essence of the places you visit in a very special way... You Classically and Photographically Rockkkk!!!! 👍😉🔥📷🎹🎻🎶❤️🌟🥂💥💫💯

Maybe as I visit just beautiful places? Hahaha, just kidding. I didn't know that it was that nice and cosy, but thanks to the colleagues that came late I could explore a bit around this old part of the town. The other, new part is totally different. Tall hotels and skyscrapers.

Yeah, that Lapsus bistro is eye-catching, with those painted details and flowers. In the painting, indeed there is a man with a guitar and a woman hugging it. Actually, I couldn't see what was represented there. Later I saw there are two people there.

It would be a real honour to play at your wedding if you would live here. A small secret, I could also play for the entrance of the groom one song you would like, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. We played it yesterday - violin and piano version, as it was the wish of the groom. So I am sure I would really enjoy playing at your wedding and hopefully you and your bride would like it too :)

Thank you very much for stopping by, it was a joy reading your reaction to this post of mine! Hahaha, photographically rock 😁😂 Thank you @fernanblog

Yes it really looks very cozy and cool and now that you mention it, I wasn't clear that it had a more modern part... wow, that makes it even more great!!!!

Ok, that what you just said would be the most EPIC thing in the galaxy, that song on piano and violin would be so mind blowing hahaha I imagined it and I think I would cry from the emotion Ouuu Yeahhhh... if I manage to overcome the fear of planes someday I would travel to Spain without a doubt, I love everything you show us in your travels, I have never taken a plane in my life (you are the first to know now 😁).

It was a pleasure my dear @mipiano and yes, You Photographically Rockkkk!!!! 👍😉🔥📷🎹🎻🎶❤️🌟🥂💥💫💯

What a beautiful town..
The paintings where artistically designed and decorated. What I failed to get is the severe emptiness of the town, such an open and beautiful place I thought there should be people busy on the beautiful narrow streets.

A good musician must practice and after practice, he or she should practice again. I have watched you played the piano marvelously but there was still need to rehearse collectively with the other musicians. Well, I see that you all have rehearsed and are conversant with the song the bride and the groom wants you to play for them but I have seen the reason why I should rehearse again even though I have rehearsed and I feel am good with the song:)

I see that you really utilized your time very well:)
A lot of times our music partners will not keep up to the agreed time of meeting, thank goodness you made the most of it. Your pictures are sweet dear @mipiano your camera quality is top-notch, is that a samsung galaxy camera?

Its a pleasure to see you've spent your day a bit far already while the Sunday is still fresh and young here like 2 a.m :)
Hope you had a great rendition with your son and friends @mipiano 🙏🙏💜💙❤️

Hey there @ovey10 :)

Indeed, no people were around. It was yesterday morning (Saturday) at 10 a.m. and seems that people here like to sleep longer 😂 or at least be at home, in tranquillity.

Practise. We were busy throughout the whole week, so we couldn't meet and have a rehearsal. But we practised separately, as you concluded, so it was to put together our parts. In the end, we had our rehearsal when they arrived, and still had time to relax a bit before the wedding ceremony started. :)

Regarding the camera, in some of the posts, I have the photos made with a Nikon camera we have, but also there are posts where I have just phone photos, such as this one, but it's not a Samsung galaxy.

Thanks, it was good, so nice... and people came to say us they enjoyed the music :) Oh, 2 a.m., I hope you went to sleep later hehehe

Wow.. that's astonishing 😀😀
Don't you think this is one of the symptoms of sleeping sickness..?😀😀
Or can it be effect of too much tranquilizer..?:)

Woooo... The Nikon camera is a bit expensive over here🥺🥺
The least is 279$ and there's one of thousand dollars too.. But I seriously don't have problem with these ones you took with your phone and I wish I could get such smart phone..😞😞
Am making preparations to change the one am using actually..

and people came to say us they enjoyed the music :)

Hehehe... That's great I am sure you all did excellently well, my ownself here enjoyed the music too already:)

That's such a pretty little village, and you got the whole place to yourself, how nice!

Hehehe, the fact it was 10 a.m. plus Saturday, helped a lot to stroll through empty streets 😅

I was also surprised by how nice and cosy it is. I do know well the new part of the city, but this old centre stayed like a hidden gem for me, until now 😇

A charming and eloquent article, very nice to know Calpe thanks to your publication... It's a beautiful and neat place... And your photos are what I would call: "Exquisitely Mediterranean" in many cases, especially those narrow and adorable streets... Thank you so much for sharing @mipiano friend... Have a nice Sunday from now!...

!PIZZA

It was my pleasure to share the charm of this place, the old centre of this Mediterranean town. The other parts of Calpe, built during the last 50 years until now are so much different. I prefer to stroll here, where the history can be felt :)
Have a great Sunday you too @jlinaresp 😇

So cool you finally had a little bit of time to visit the old part and discover new things from Calpe. Very cool. It does look different than what you described is around the area of the hotel.

Sorry to hear the singers were late, but it did give you some extra time 😉
Strange all the bars were closed…
Great captures @mipiano 👋🏻😊 have a wonderful evening, and good night 🤗😴 big hug!

You see, indeed so different. You saw the part where the hotel is, maybe also the interior of it when I shared it for the first time and the road that leads to this town (the tunnels and rocky formation). This old part was a surprise for me too, to see and explore the narrow streets. The singers, well one of them already told me some time ago that they are not on time many times... It's I who wanted to do my part well and be there at the agreed time. I can learn for the next time :D

The bars were closed, I guess it has that rhythm that in the morning they are closed and open in the afternoon, until late in the evening. That's my guess.
Thank you @littlebee4 , you have a great Sunday 🌞

Yes, I remember the interior too, as I saw most of your posts 😎 truly different.
What a nice surprise it must have been.
But like you, I am also always on time. Even though people tell me they would be late. Some people are just always on time 🤓😉

Could be yes… but sometimes they can be open too. Maybe it depends on their location.
Thank you @mipiano
You are welcome. Have a wonderful Sunday too and enjoy it 👋🏻☀️😊

Hello @mipiano, a beautiful place that is preserved in time, the streets are very colorful and offer a diverse gastronomy for the enjoyment of the visitor, thank you for sharing your visit this beautiful place.

Blessings!

I also like the colourful corners and details I was seeing around. It can give a super nice touch to a place like this. I am glad you could also visit it now, through this post :))

What a nice walk, I like the colourful houses and cobbled streets.

Waiting for unpunctual people makes me a bit angry but you make good use of the time, you walk a lot.

I didn't know your son was a musician but I guessed so, is he also in hive?

I am very curious, I apologize, greetings @mipiano 🤗

I made a good time out of it, that's true. I could be angry, but what I would get from it? I prefer using some plan B hahaha, and doing the best out of the situation :)

Yes, he is playing the violin, and already performing with me if there are wedding ceremonies. And no, he doesn't have a hive account.
Thank you so much for your presence in this mini tour through the old centre of Calpe 😇

Wow! Amazing place and cool pictures.. thank you for sharing this one. God bless.

The place is really nice, no doubt, and I am also glad you liked these pictures. Those little colourful details captured my attention so I had to take photos :D

The place is full of art and I like those architecture.
Thanks for bringing us to another beautiful place 😊

Could be, yes, that it is full of art. The paintings, that are hanging from the balconies also show that the citizens of it like art. 😊

Nice.. Because I'm an art lover and an artist sometimes hehe 😊

The wall was cool to see. And moreover, as it was a surprise. I would not imagine it had those walls and the tower. All in all, it was a nice time spent there, waiting for my colleagues

The ambiance, just by looking at the photos, seemed to be very cool. Spain is really a great place. The arts, architecture, and everything in the surroundings are just great!

This place looks beautiful and neat and full of colors. It seems that these ancient weapons exist in every country, because in my area there are weapons too. Maybe someday I will share it with you.

we eschew 'new' centres of anywhere and always head to the old centre. that church is nothing like one sees here in italy.
