Hi! It's another week of sharing some travel blogs.
Today, I will be bringing you to Kampung Sungai Melayu for an ecotourism adventure! This activity is part of the Summer School Program of the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to Davao Oriental State University, Philippines participants.
The ecotourism park is more than an hour travel from UTM. Along the road, you can see a lot of palm trees and a countryside view. Upon our arrival, our Malaysian friends made some arrangements for our boat and we were given life jackets. Then we headed to the man-made wood bridge for us to ride to our assigned boat.
3-4 people can ride the boat. Before we sail, the boatman put a crab-trap in a portion of the sea bank.
We then started sailing to the mangrove park. As the boat sped up, our excitement also awakened.
Then we started to move towards the mangrove swamps.
I then thought of the suspense movies that I watched before as we went along with our sailing. It somewhat gave me a feeling of being frightened if there was an anaconda or crocodile in the water. And alas, minutes later, the boatman said, a Buwaya! (Crocodile!) Oh there's really a crocodile there! At that time, it was resting.
The boatman said, it was the only crocodile found there, maybe it was carried by the flood, and that's why it was there.
As we moved forward, we saw monkeys, lots of monkeys and when we stopped, they seemed to have a show. They moved from one branch to another, swung from one tree to another. I enjoyed watching them!
Then we also saw a Bayawak or Monitor Lizard. I was really amazed with the lots of wild animals I saw. When we look up, there were also birds, there's a hawk and an eagle.
After the mangrove swamp tour, we go to the mussel farm. This is the place where fisherfolks get the mussels for sale. The boatman were able to show us lots of mussels and we were invited to fresh mussel tasting.
We tried, I don't exactly know what it really tastes, because I swallowed it without chewing, the only taste I remember was that it was salty. 😁😆
On the other side, we also saw the city view of Johor.
After the tour, we go back to the crab-trap and sadly we don't catch any crabs at all. 😀
Then we had lunch in the restaurant there and we had a taste of all the local delicacies in Kampung including this Assam Pedas. It was spicy, really spicy and I just tasted a little.
I loved the eco-tourism adventure and I hope you enjoyed reading too. Thanks for the support and keep safe everyone!
