Falling in love with the Historical City of Melaka

in Worldmappinlast year (edited)

Of the many places that I visited, one of the best places in terms of history preservation is Melaka in Malaysia. From the architecture, historical legendary stories, and activities, I can say that Melaka is one of a kind.

Our first destination in Melaka was the ruins of A Famosa, it is a Portuguese fortress, that was built way back in 1512. The gates were restored and there were many tourists taking pictures.

Then we were able to climb at most 200 steps to St. Paul Church which is in St. Pauls' Hill to have a view of the city. Indeed, the view from above is refreshing.

Inside the church are ruins and tombstones. It amazes us that those tombstones were in the early 1500s or even 1600s.

Just near the A Famosa was the Muzium Istana Kesultanan Melaka or Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum where we were able to learn more about the history of Malaysia.

This one is the miniature of the boat that reached Malaysia. This boat is also seen in Melaka as Museum.

This is the chamber where the leaders would meet. I like the colors and lighting.

Another corner is the sultan's bedchamber. They said nobody can go there without the permission of the sultan. Even the queen should seek permission before she can enter.

One of the highlights of the museum is the legendary story of Hang Tuah, a Malay warrior who was falsely accused and the Sultan believed the accusation without the proper investigation. He hid himself, with the help of other friends and only returned when the Sultan looked for him and he was told to fight to one of his friends who fought against the Sultan as revenge to what the Sultan did to Hang Tua.

There were also exhibits of the costumes of the royal family, the accessories, porcelains and even tools for fighting and farming.

There are also exhibits of early sultanate palaces.

Indeed, every corner of the Museum tells a story and history.

We also visited the Secret Garden, which at present is no longer secret since it is open to the public. There are a few variety of flowers.

We were able to ride the colorful trishaw of Melaka. Riding it would give a childlike experience of excitement as we tour around the city.

In the evening, we were mesmerized by our River Cruise tour. The history of the bridges and structures that we passed along on the river cruise is amazing. With the 9 km. river cruising I was able to learn a lot of practices and history of Melaka.

In Melaka, you can see that buildings were preserved, and the government gave a budget to the traditional houses for preservation.

Most of the places in Melaka are given the Unesco Heritage site title.

Indeed, I fell in love with the beauty of Melaka. My visit there makes me desire to dig more into its history and wonders. If given a chance, I would love to visit again Melaka with my family.

I hope you like this article as much as I love the travel I had in Melaka.
