Midsommar i Sverige - Summer Solstice Festival Holiday
As you know, Sweden is located in Northern Europe, and due to its latitude, the sun sets below the horizon at 4:00 p.m. in the winter, so you can feel the shortness of the days from around September and the arrival of the dark and cold season in October. During the winter solstice in December, the sun sets on the horizon after 3:00 a.m. and sunrise is after 10:00 a.m. At higher latitudes, it is the season of midnight sun.
However, the opposite time of year, the summer solstice, is when the sun's rays can be felt, and the entire country of Sweden spends the Midsummer Festival vacation in June coinciding with the summer solstice. Truly, June and July are the best times to visit Sweden, and if you have the opportunity to visit Sweden on vacation, I highly recommend this time of year.
We too have decided to use this midsummer vacation to visit my sambo's parents. We rented a car and began our 6-hour trip! Osaka to Tokyo is about 500 km, and Stockholm to Sambo's parents' house is about 500 km! Moreover, the highway only goes halfway, and the rest of the way is just a town road, so we left a little early, anticipating that the trip would take even longer. Sambo was considering purchasing an electric car, so we rented an electric car to see how it would be like to travel by electric car.
It went well, but since it is still an electric vehicle, we need to consider first where we can charge the battery, and plan our trip with the charging location as a rest stop for meals and other breaks.
Lappen Grill in Hedemora
We were getting hungry and wanted to recharge our batteries, so we decided to take a break first in this little town of Hedemora. I had a huge burger at Lappen Grill, which is popular among the locals. Wow, it was delicious!
After that we drove a bit and arrived at our first place to stay, we stayed at AirBnB, and one night was 500 SEK. Isn't that pretty affordable? It was an AirBnB that looked like a side business, as if they had built a guest cabin on their property and were using it as a lodging facility as well. I was envious that they were using this hut as a summer house, and I wished I could do this kind of business too.
Mora, Sweden
Mora was a transit point, but not a destination, so we took a short break and did some sightseeing, then headed on to the next rechargeable battery. I had wanted to visit Mora for a long time and wanted to spend a little more time there, but Sambo was impatient, so I could not spend much time there. Too bad! I would like to come back again!
Mora is the capital of the Darlana Region. The Darlana region is famous for its beautiful countryside, which is typical of Sweden. When a foreigner like me thinks of the Swedish countryside, I imagine the scenery of the Darlana region. The horse figurine from Dalarna, which is used in IKEA's design, is also from this region.
Inside the cafe was an antique cupboard, apparently in use since the 1800s, which reminded me once again that this position is still an area with a long history.
After the fika, I bought flowers to present and for my grandmother. My grandma lets me stay at her house every time I visit her, and she cooks me a feast each time. I hope she will always be in good health.
After that, we stopped by the Mora Knife store, which is said to be famous in Mora. There I bought a traditional horse figurine from the Dalarna region. I wanted to buy a knife as a souvenir, but I had no idea what to do with it. In the end, I decided not to buy it.
The first day's trip was very lagom, which means "just right!" in many ways. We left home earlier because we didn't wish to rush! And, we were right! It was very lagom. So, we were able to take our time and enjoy the time we had. I feel that life in town is once again a very hectic life. It is my dream to someday lead this kind of slow life, but I wonder if it will be so difficult when I go back to Japan to work, and I am once again grateful for the time I spent in Sweden. It has been a good experience for me.
夏至祭りのお休み
スウェーデンはご存じの通り北欧に位置していて、緯度の関係で冬は太陽が４時には地平線に沈みます。９月ごろから日の短さを感じ、１０月には薄暗くそして寒い季節の到来を感じます。１２月の冬至の時期は太陽は３時過ぎには地平線に沈み、日の出は１０時過ぎになります。さらに緯度の高い地域だと、白夜の季節になります。
しかし、その反対の時期である夏至の時期は太陽の日差しを感じることの出来る季節です。６月の夏至の時期に合わせてスウェーデン全土では夏至祭りの休暇を過ごします。本当に６月と７月のスウェーデンは最高の時期で、もし旅行にスウェーデンに訪れる機会があればこの時期をお勧めます。
私もこの夏至を利用してサンボの実家を訪ねることにした。レンタカーを借りて6時間の旅が始まった！大阪から東京までは約500キロだが、ストックホルムからサンボの実家までは約500キロ！しかも、高速道路は途中までしか通っておらず、あとは陸路なので、さらに時間がかかることを見越して、少し早めに出発した。電気自動車の購入を検討しているサンボの意向もあり、一度電気自動車での旅行はどの様なものかと、電気自動車を借りていざ、わたしたちの旅が開始しました。
順調に進みましたが、やはり電気自動車なので充電できる場所を先に検討し、充電場所を休憩場所として食事など休憩中に充電することを考えながら旅行の計画を立てる必要があります。
お腹も空いてきたし、充電もしたかったので、まずはこの小さな町、ヘデモラで休憩することにした。地元の人に人気のLappen Grillで巨大なハンバーガーを食べまして。いやぁー、おいしかった！
その後は、少し走って初めて宿泊地に到着しました。AirBnBで泊ったのですが、一泊が５００SEKでした。結構手ごろじゃないですか？自分の敷地内にゲストの小屋を作って、それを宿泊施設としても使用しているような、サイドビジネスの様なAirBnBでした。そもそも、この小屋もサマーハウスと使用しているようで、この様なビジネスがわたしもできたらと羨ましくなりました。
モーラ、ダーラナ地方の美しい町
Moraは経由地ではあったのですが、目的地ではなかったので少し休憩と観光をして、次の充電池で向かいました。と言ってもわたしは昔からこのMoraと言う町に観光に着たく、もう少しゆっくりと観光をしたかったのですが、せかすサンボがいたので今回の旅ではあまり時間を過ごすことが出来ませんでした。残念！また来てみたいです！
MoraはDarlana地方の州都です。このダーラナ地方と言うのは、スウェーデンの代表的な田園地域でとても美しい地域として有名です。外国人であるわたしの様な者はスウェーデンの田園地域を想像すると、このダーラナ地方の風景を想像すると思います。と言うのも、あのIKEAのデザインでも使用されているダーラナ地方から来た馬の置物もこの地方から着ています。
カフェの中にはアンティーク調の食器棚がありました。１８００年代から使用しているようで、この地位はやはり長い歴史のある地域だなと改めて感じました。
フィーカの後は、おばあちゃんへのプレゼンとに花を買いました。おばあちゃんには遊びに行くたびに家へ泊めてくれ、そしてその度にご馳走を作ってくれます。いつまでも元気でいて欲しいです。
その後は、モーラ（Mora）で有名と言われている、モーラナイフの店に寄りました。そこで、ダーラナ地方の伝統的な馬の置物を買いました。ナイフも記念に買いたかったのですが、その買ったナイフをどう使うのか考えるとなかなか使い道がなく。。。結局買うのをやめてしまいました。
初日の旅行は少し早めに家から出発したこともあり、ゆっくりと時間を楽しむことが出来ました。町での生活は改めてあくせくした人生を送っているなと感じます。こういったゆっくり時間を送る生活をいつか送るのは夢ですが、日本に帰って仕事をするとなるとなかなかそうもいかないのかなぁと、改めてスウェーデンで送った時間に感謝しています。良い経験をさせてもらっています。
