My dear friends of HIVE, today I want to tell you about this beautiful place that has a very special place in my heart. It is the island of Madeira, belonging to Portugal.
Mis queridos amigos de HIVE, hoy quiero contarles de este hermoso lugar que tiene un espacio muy especial en mi corazón. Se trata de la isla de Madeira, perteneciente a Portugal.
As I told you in another post, my parents are Portuguese, specifically from this island. I have had the opportunity to visit it 4 times and I always want to come back.
Como les había comentado en otro post, mis padres son portugueses, específicamente de esta isla. Yo he tenido la oportunidad de visitarla en 4 oportunidades y siempre quiero volver.
This island is, for me, a paradisiacal place because it has very beautiful landscapes and it is impossible not to fill the memory of the camera with every place you visit.
Esta isla es, para mí, un lugar paradisíaco ya que cuenta con unos paisajes muy hermosos y es imposible no llenar la memoria de la cámara con cada lugar que visites.
Madeira is a small island, you can travel by car practically in one day. In my opinion, I do not recommend it since the ideal is to do it calmly to enjoy each place. Being an island surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, its beaches are quite cold and have very little sand, the vast majority are rustic stone but that does not prevent many tourists enjoying them.
Madeira es una isla pequeña, se puede recorrer en carro prácticamente en un día. En mi opinión, no lo recomiendo ya que lo ideal es hacerlo con calma para disfrutar de cada lugar. Por ser una isla rodeada por el mar atlántico, sus playas son bastantes frías y cuentan con muy poca arena, la gran mayoría son de piedra rústica pero eso no impide ver a muchos turistas disfrutando en ellas.
Its capital is Funchal, the most modern part of the island. In its port, you can see 3 or more cruise ships making their usual stop and there are thousands of tourists visiting the island daily.
Su capital es Funchal, es la parte más moderna de la isla. En su puerto, se pueden visualizar 3 o más cruceros haciendo su parada habitual y son miles de turistas visitando la isla diariamente.
Another of its attractions is its gastronomy, for me, one of the best I have ever tasted. You can enjoy a variety of fish and seafood. One of its typical dishes are the sea limpets, these are an edible species of sea snail, which in all restaurants is common to find; they are served in a pan previously cooked with butter and lemon, and you can accompany them with the typical "bolo do caco", which is the iconic bread of the region. Also, if you visit the parish of Curral das Freiras, I recommend you to try the roasted chestnuts, which you can accompany with a coffee while enjoying a panoramic view of the mountains.
Otro de sus atractivos es su gastronomía, para mí, una de las mejores que he probado. Pueden deleitarse con variedad de pescados y mariscos. Uno de sus platos típicos son las lapas de mar, éstas son una especie comestible de caracol de mar, la cual en todos los restaurantes es común encontrarla; te las sirven en un sartén previamente cocinadas con mantequilla y limón, y las puedes acompañar con el típico “bolo do caco”, que es el pan ícono de la región. También, si visitas la freguesia de Curral das Freiras, les recomiendo probar las castañas asadas, las cuales puedes acompañar con un café mientras disfrutas de una vista panorámica a las montañas.
If there is something that identifies Madeira, it is its typical Santana houses. You will be able to see them in all the souvenir stores, this is because it is a representation of the history of the island. In the past, in the upper part of the houses they used to keep seeds and cereals, and in the lower part, they used to keep the cattle in stables. In the south of the island, specifically in Santana, we can see and enter the replicas of these houses, taking us back to that time. They also have a very beautiful theme park, which I recommend visiting to learn more about the culture of the island.
Si algo identifica a Madeira, es sus típicas casas de Santana. Las van a poder ver en todas las tiendas de souvenir, esto es porque es una representación de la historia de la isla. Anteriormente, en la parte superior de las casas se solían conservar las semillas y cereales, y en la parte inferior, solían tener al ganado en establos. Al sur de la isla, específicamente en Santana, podemos ver y entrar a las réplicas de estas casas, trasladándonos a esa época. También cuentan con un parque temático muy hermoso, el cual recomiendo visitar para conocer más de la cultura de la isla.
One of my favorite places on the island is Porto Moniz, there are natural pools formed by stones, you can spend a very relaxing day and enjoy this beautiful place with your family. In my last visit, I did not have the pleasure of enjoying the pools because the weather was not favorable, I recommend you to visit it in the summer season (July and August).
Uno de mis lugares preferidos de la isla es Porto Moniz, allí se encuentran las piscinas naturales formadas por piedras, puedes pasar un día muy relajante y disfrutar en familia de este hermoso lugar. En mi última visita, no tuve la dicha de disfrutar de las piscinas porque el clima no favoreció, les recomiendo visitarlo en la temporada de verano (mes de julio y agosto).
There is a lot to tell about Madeira, but in a next opportunity I will tell you more about other places of interest and its culture.
