Near the city of Guanare, Portuguesa state, Venezuela, there is a park that is mystical, without wanting to talk about religions, I will tell you what supposedly makes this a special place. This park is called La Aparición de la Virgen de Coromoto, which in English would be something like “The Apparition of the Virgin of Coromoto”, and well, this is because, according to the locals, an apparition of the virgin to an indigenous man named Coromoto took place in this area. I don't know what year they say this happened, but if it was an indigenous man then it must have been at least a couple of centuries ago.
On the outskirts of the park we can see structures with colonial airs and a statue of the virgin of Coromoto, there are some stores which were mostly closed, but which visually are in good state of maintenance. There is a large fence that covers the large internal area of the park of which you will see images in a moment. Entrance is free and is accessed through a small gate with a simple but charming structure.
The first thing we can see when we enter the park, is a large white cross at the end of a corridor that has eight white vases, these look in a good state of maintenance. And well, the park in general is a space with large trees that provide shade, there are gardens and common areas where people can rest and spend the day with the family. At the time of our visit, the park was practically alone, so we were able to stroll around, appreciate the spaces and breathe fresh air in peace and quiet.
And well, now you will see the place where the apparition of the virgin supposedly occurred, this used to be a stream with more abundant water, but it dried up over the years, the authorities built a kind of monument for the parishioners to concentrate there to perform their religious activities.
This park is located in a town called “Quebrada de la Virgen”, a place that seems forgotten by the few people you see in the streets, everything looks inhospitable and with little activity, but I was there on a Friday morning, maybe on weekends it has more visitors and activity. It was a pleasure to share with you this place that is quite far from my city and the center of the country, I hope you enjoyed it. A big hug!
