Hello everyone, I hope you are well ☺️ Today I'm going to tell you a little about the church of souls in Viana do Castelo. I visited Viana do Castelo in March, around Easter. Viana do Castelo is a charming city in the north of Portugal (in my beautiful country), Viana do Castelo is known for its rich history and beautiful landscapes. During Easter time, the city transforms into a spectacle of colors and traditions with decorated streets and a festive atmosphere that enchants visitors (several tourists but also many Portuguese). Viana dos Castelos during this period was a complete experience, especially because of the Church of Souls, one of the city's architectural treasures that you will show later ☺️
That day we went early in the morning, it was a very pleasant day. The city was vibrant with preparations for Easter celebrations in full swing. The streets were filled with decorative decorations, from ribbons and flags to flowers, creating a magical atmosphere that reflects Easter joy and hope.
Our first stop was at the church of souls, and it is about this beautiful church that I come to talk to you today. This church is located in the heart of the city. The walk to the church was a real discovery.
The streets were narrow and picturesque, closed to traffic, allowing those traveling on foot to freely explore the city. Every corner revealed a new surprise, windows decorated with colorful fabrics, balconies decorated with flowers.
Finally we arrived at the church of souls. This church is a jewel of religious architecture, known for its simplicity and beauty. The facade of the church is elegant, with straight lines and symmetry that conveys a feeling of harmony and peace. The white walls contrast with the stone details, creating an aesthetic that is both humble and impressive.
Unfortunately I couldn't get into the church because it was closed. We can see through one of the windows that the interior is a sanctuary of serenity, with a very soft light filtering through the colored glass. I told my boyfriend that I would love to know the history of this beautiful church and a very nice man in his 80s said that he has lived there since he was born and that every day he goes to that church and tells us a little about this church. The history of the church of souls is as fascinating as its beauty. It was built in the 18th century, the church underwent several renovations over the centuries, remaining an important center of faith and community for the inhabitants of Viana do Castelo. Devotion to Our Lady of Souls, the patron saint of the church, is a central aspect of local religious life, especially during Easter, when the faithful gather to celebrate masses and processions.
In addition to its religious significance, the church of souls is also a testament to the skill and dedication of the artisans who work on its construction and decoration. The gilded carvings, delicate frescoes and hand-painted tiles are examples of Viana do Castelo's artistic heritage. Olá a todos, espero que estejam bem ☺️ Hoje vou contar-vos um pouco sobre a igreja das almas em Viana do Castelo. Visitei Viana do Castelo em Março, perto da Páscoa. Viana do Castelo é uma cidade encantadora do norte de Portugal (no meu lindo país), Viana do Castelo é conhecida pela sua rica história e belas paisagens. Na época da Páscoa, a cidade transforma-se num espetáculo de cores e tradições com ruas decoradas e um ambiente festivo que encanta os visitantes (vários turistas mas também muitos portugueses). Viana dos Castelos neste período foi uma experiência completa, sobretudo por causa da Igreja das Almas, um dos tesouros arquitetónicos da cidade que irá mostrar mais tarde ☺️
Naquele dia fomos de manhã cedo, foi um dia muito agradável. A cidade estava vibrante com os preparativos para as celebrações da Páscoa a todo vapor. As ruas ficaram repletas de decorações decorativas, desde fitas e bandeiras até flores, criando uma atmosfera mágica que reflete a alegria e a esperança da Páscoa.
Nossa primeira parada foi na igreja das almas, e é sobre essa linda igreja que venho falar com vocês hoje. Esta igreja está localizada no coração da cidade. A caminhada até a igreja foi uma verdadeira descoberta.
As ruas eram estreitas e pitorescas, fechadas ao trânsito, permitindo a quem viajava a pé explorar livremente a cidade. Cada canto revelava uma nova surpresa, janelas decoradas com tecidos coloridos, varandas decoradas com flores.
Finalmente chegamos à igreja das almas. Esta igreja é uma joia da arquitetura religiosa, conhecida pela sua simplicidade e beleza. A fachada da igreja é elegante, de linhas retas e simetria que transmite uma sensação de harmonia e paz. As paredes brancas contrastam com os detalhes em pedra, criando uma estética ao mesmo tempo humilde e impressionante.
Infelizmente não consegui entrar na igreja porque estava fechada. Podemos ver através de uma das janelas que o interior é um santuário de serenidade, com uma luz muito suave filtrada pelos vidros coloridos. Falei para meu namorado que adoraria conhecer a história dessa linda igreja e um senhor muito simpático de seus 80 anos disse que mora lá desde que nasceu e que todos os dias vai naquela igreja e nos conta um pouco sobre isso igreja. A história da igreja das almas é tão fascinante quanto a sua beleza. Construída no século XVIII, a igreja sofreu diversas remodelações ao longo dos séculos, mantendo-se como um importante centro de fé e comunidade dos habitantes de Viana do Castelo. A devoção a Nossa Senhora das Almas, padroeira da igreja, é um aspecto central da vida religiosa local, especialmente durante a Páscoa, quando os fiéis se reúnem para celebrar missas e procissões.
Para além do seu significado religioso, a igreja das almas é também um testemunho da habilidade e dedicação dos artesãos que trabalham na sua construção e decoração. A talha dourada, os delicados frescos e os azulejos pintados à mão são exemplos do património artístico de Viana do Castelo. Cada detalhe contém uma história de fé, arte e cultura que se entrelaçam para criar um espaço verdadeiramente sagrado.

Viana do Castelo, especialmente durante a Páscoa, é um destino que oferece mais do que belas paisagens, oferece muita cultura e tradições que definem a identidade de Portugal. A combinação de decoração festiva, ruas acolhedoras e uma comunidade vibrante cria uma experiência visualmente deslumbrante e emocionalmente enriquecedora. A nossa visita à igreja das almas e o passeio pelas ruas decoradas da cidade são momentos que ficam na minha memória
Recomendo vivamente uma visita a Viana do Castelo, tem muita história para descobrir. A igreja é um ponto tão grande do que pode existir. Visite Viana do Castelo, com certeza não se arrependerá ☺️
