Hi Everyone! How are you? I hope you guys are fine. Today I went to Sambisari Temple which is located in Purwomartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. If from the east of the city of Yogyakarta it takes a distance of 12 Km, Sambisari Temple is a Hindu temple that has a Shiva sect which was built in the 19th adab by a Hindu Mataram King named Rakai Garung, according to the story, this Sambisari Temple was discovered accidentally by a farmer at work. The story of Sambisari Temple which was discovered in 1966 by a farmer named Arjo Wiyono who was farming. When he hit the hoe on the ground, his hoe was blocked by a building, and apparently the building was the Sambisasri Temple building.
Sambisari Temple Structure
When entering this temple area, we will find flat stones that have protrusions on them about 12 pieces, 8 of which are round and 4 are square. The area of the Sambisari temple is estimated to be 5 x 5 meters and has a ladder with a height of 2.5 meters.
then on the other side of the temple wall we can see the carvings of Linga and Yoni, this refers to Lord Shiva. This is similar to what I found in the previous temples, I thought because this was a Hindu temple, so the carvings of Lord Shiva were clearly visible. Linga is another name for Lord Shiva and Yoni is another name for his wife. Then on the outer walls there are sculptures depicting Goddess Durga, Ganse, and Agastya, on top of this sculpture there is a carving of Kala's head, then on the left and right doors of the Sambisari temple building there are two carvings of the gods Mahakala and Nandiswara or also called with the guardian god.
Then from the front of Sambisari Temple there are three Perwara temples, each Perwara temple measuring approximately 4.9 x 4.8 meters, then the northern and southern perwara temples measuring approximately 4.8 x 4.8 meters. The three perwara-perwara temples do not have a body and head or roof, there is only the lower part of the foot of the temple, then each of these Perwara temples is surrounded by a balustrade.
Then the Sambisari Temple area is fenced off by a white stone wall that has a length and width of approximately 50 x 48 meters. Furthermore, on each part of the fence there is a temple entrance. Furthermore, in the front yard of the temple, 8 phallus were built, 4 of them in front of each entrance and 4 of them at each corner of the temple. Furthermore, on the outside of the fence there is a terrace which has a width of approximately 8 meters. The thing that catches the most attention of this temple is that the center point is at the entrance to the right.
