About 70km south west of Brisbane City is Flinders Peak, a well known challenging hike which is part of the northern edge of the Scenic Rim. (Photo of the signboard at the start of our hike).
The traditional custodians (the Aboriginal or Indigenous people) of this area are the Yugambeh people. But the area is now known by the names given by the white people who settled this land. The peak we were climbing was named after a famous explorer called Matthew Flinders, who was perhaps most famous for his circumnavigation of what is now known as Australia. (Source)
It was July 2020 in Queensland which is the middle of our winter. It can be chilly and fresh early in the mornings that time of year, but doesn't take long to warm up on a hilly hike.
Halfway up there were some really good views on what turned out to be a really nice day.
This is the second half of the ascent. The goal was to reach the little hut at the summit.
That plant sticking in from the left of this photo is a Xanthorrhoea, also known as a Grass Tree because it looks like long shoots of grass coming out of the top of a tree.
You can just see the Brisbane city on the skyline on the horizon.
This was an unofficial lookout. Great view, hey?
The summit was a little disappointing. I suppose a helicopter pad and a lot of communication equipment will do that, but the views were great.
We would like to do every walk in this area but looking around, it might take a while!
The 7km return hike took 2 hours 31 minutes with 678 metres of elevation gain. (Photo is a screenshot of my Strava app).

There are many other hikes to do in this area but they will have to be for another day.
