Morning sun rise at the Brisbane domestic airport terminal. We were up early for a weekend trip away. Airfare prices seem to have rocketed up in price recently with steep hike in oil prices and all the extra demand now that covid is less of a hassle. Luckily for us @consciuoscat keeps an eye out for any special offers that are around and we were able to get some cheap return flights.

Newcastle might not be everyone’s first pick for a long weekend away being mainly know for heavy Industrial history but it does have some fantastic ocean beaches and I had never really explored much of the central business area other than driving through on route to else where,

From the airport we just jumped on a local bus as we only had carry on aircraft luggage with us. It was thirty minutes from the airport to Newcastles new transit centre were we grabbed Light rail which pretty dropped us right at our accommodation. A local complained it was expensive to build and not many people use it but it was much cheaper than a taxi and very handy for us.

Newcastle is Australia’s second oldest city and there are parts of it where you can Definitely tell but it looks like they have been trying to modernize and improve things. Some great big murals always help brighten things up.

I would have liked to spend a bit more time exploring the old coastal defence installation but it had closed before we got there.
