Obi Castle ruins, Miyazaki, Japan

in Worldmappin9 months ago

We don’t get many castles in Australia so any chance to visit one even if it is just some ruins is pretty exciting. I did not learn much about Japanese history or culture at school so stepping into this place was pretty educational and cool. The moss covered ground and stones were like steeping back in time, to the time of the Samurai. There is none of the original castle still in tack but they did rebuild the front gate to what it was purposely like.

They had a moat. I never knew they had castles and moats in Japan, I thought that was just a European and English thing but I suppose that just my lack of education.

The Obi ruins are about 40 minutes drive south of Miyazaki on the Island of Kyushu in Japan.

Basically you walk up this mossy stone path and stairs to a hill top.

The top of the hill is where the old castle used to stand, one big stone and a some big old trees. The trees where planted 100s of years ago when the castle was taken down and after the clan lost a war.

The big old trees moss and the odd stone slab just laying around really did feel like you were taken back in time.

This was just somebody’s front yard not part any displays but it could have been.

It was the first day of spring so the cheery and plum trees were starting to blossom.

seeing the castle which still looks beautiful makes me feel like I've gone to the past, the shady trees and pink flowers there make the environmental views there look very beautiful, traveling to Japan has become my dream

Exploring old forts or castles always a wonderful place to learn history in a region. Japanese gardens always so impressive, worthwhile walking and peeking in to capture some photos.

Definitely, I would have liked to have seen a few more too, if we had more time.

Have only ever seen a couple in my lifetime, very relaxing to walk through, lots of work goes into maintaining balance in features.
