Thirty five minutes south east of Brisbane CBD is Sirromet Winery in the Mount Cotton area of Redlands City Shire.
Wallabies just love this area, lots of wide open space, I have visited this place many times over the years and have never not seen some.
Each time I visit they seem to add and upgrade little touches to this well looked after estate.
You can just see the telecommunications towers on the top of Mt Cotton on the horizon. We have walked and ran up Mount Cotton, 233 meters above sea level, there are a couple of access tracks on the other side.
A big chunk of the Mount Cotton is private property part of which was given to The Scouts and Cub Organization, which is great for young children to camp and do learning activities in the bush. We have also done an obstacle course training race there which included a run/walk to the top and back. You have a pretty good view over lots of the Redland Shire and Moreton Bay from up there.
Historical farming equipment.
The modern Love Heart photo opportunity.
More wallebies
The Winery was built new in year 2000 so its pretty update the all the modern Equipment.
I like the way you can walk all the way around it and see just about everything, though there was not much happening the morning we were there.
The vines
More vines plus a lot of weeds in the back ground, we had a lot of rain recently and it must be a big job to stay on top of all the maintenance over summer when everything grows so fast.
The Alter for Weddings services
The Restaurant entrance.
The Cellar and wine tasting.
But on this occasion we were there for the parkrun. Out the back of the winery they have a fair bit of land and they hold all sorts of outdoor music events. The Bands usually set up at the bottom of the hill in front of the tree line and everyone just sits on the grass. One of the bigger events is called "A day on the Green"
Photo Collages by parkrun Volunteer photographer, above was last weekend. Below was a Sirromet parkrun test trial December 2015 on a wet day, with plenty of puddles the way a cross country parkrun should be, my legs looked a lot chunkier back then. The successful trial was a couple of weeks before the first ever official parkrun at Sirromet and over 600 people showed up for there event number 1. Since then parkrun try to keep new event launches quiet as not to overload new venues and volunteers.
Thanks for reading and see you next time.
