The short ferry ride across the Hunter River.

We were not sure if we would have enough time to checkout Stockton on the northern side of the Hunter River on our Newcastle trip, but being avid parkrun tourists meant we had hear of Stockton because they have there own free weekly 5 kilometre timed running event. We were mainly in town to visit and run Newy parkrun as it had been around a lot longer and we have been chasing a newish parkrun challenge the "I index" each parkrun has an index number for when they started. Newy was the 8th on started in Australia. I have quite a few holes in my list but @conscoiuscat has 8 of the first 10. We do not purposely do trip just for the parkruns but do really enjoy adding them into our trip away where ever possible.

We were actually walking back to our accommodation after completing the newy parkrun and breakfast when we saw the Stockton ferry. It was only a short ride and we had a bit of time to spare. It could be good reconnaissance mission for a possible future trip.

We found the parkrun start and course marker easy even with no one about. It looked flat and flat, just the way I like them, we could be coming back sooner than I thought lol. We didn’t get a lot of time in Stockton as our legs had already covered a lot of ground but I did really enjoy checking out the massive break wall and historic ship wreck.
