Hello everyone, how are you? Last month, I traveled around the city of Jakarta with the Jatinegara route, more precisely Passer Messter. I visited a Vihara called Amurva Bhumi. How old is this Vihara? This Vihara is 329 years old. Very long.
One thing, the temple or Vihara is always in the market. Oh yes, this Vihara was also not attacked during the 1998 riots. In the past, in Indonesia, Chinese citizens became the target of riots in 1998.
The impact was that a number of fences in Viharas or temples had high fences. This prevented residents from entering. However, in this Vihara, the entrance fence was not too high. Uniquely, the local residents guarded this Vihara so that it was not attacked by the riots. One of the Viharas that survived the riots was this Vihara, the Amurva Bhumi Vihara.
Back to the story of this Vihara. This Vihara is the second oldest Vihara in Jakarta. The main god is the God Pal Kung Lao Ye. This god is the god of trade. Tells the story of a god who is successful in trade.
Unlike other Viharas or temples, there are no large candles that are lit all day long. If you look at some Viharas, many long-life candles are installed. Maybe there is no safety reason for the candles. Because, this Vihara is located in a densely populated settlement.
Like Viharas in general, this Vihara has a red color scheme. However, there is no lion statue in this place. It's just that the dragon symbol is right in front of the Vihara door. Some Viharas have different symbols. There are Phoenix birds and lions.
Another interesting thing is that this Vihara was once visited by Gus Dur, a religious figure and former president of Indonesia. A number of other figures have come to this place, such as the former Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Djarot and the former governor of Jakarta, Ahok.
The most anticipated celebration is the Cap Go Meh celebration. Because, the people who parade are local residents. Not only the Vihara administrators. This is one of the beauties of diversity that occurs in Indonesia. That's all my story. See you again.
