Hello friends travelers of the world and adventure lovers, traveling is something that I am very passionate about, especially because I get to know new places that I had always longed to visit and live new experiences.
On my second day visiting Merida after getting to know and touring in detail the Monumento del Perro Nevado we headed with our tour companions to the Capilla de Piedra a sacred place and part of our Cultural Heritage.
The Capilla de Piedra is one of those emblematic and tourist sites that I had not had the opportunity to know closely since whenever I traveled with my parents we followed the Carretera Trasandina without stopping at the chapel, this important religious temple for the Merideños and who visit it is located in the municipality San Rafael de Mucuchíes of the state Mérida just in front of the Public Library "Juan Félix Sánchez y Epifanía Gil ".
It was designed by a great artist and sculptor named Juan Felix Sanchez and its construction took a couple of years, to place each river stone in place in different shades of colors predominantly gray stones and thus be able to give the shape with architectural features that makes it fascinating to the eye, it was also built in honor of the Virgen de Coromoto who is the patron saint of our beloved Venezuela.
Its main entrance has some stones that give rounded shape to its main bases and others in the points of the roof with shapes similar to those of some saints or virgins, a star in the tip and in the center two frames for windows with two bells that I suppose are used when some important Eucharist is celebrated in the area, the rest of its side walls are also made of stone and its roof has wood with red tiles.
The Capilla de Piedra during our visit was crowded with tourists in the morning hours and although it was not open, after touring its exterior I was left perusing the mountains around me with their distinct shades of green and brown that captivate me.
There was also a monument to what would be the beginning of this place but which I saw at the end of my tour, with a stone base with a head shape on its surface which said: "Homenaje realizado por Juan Felix Sánchez como testimonio de Amistad año 1992" which is the signature of this important sculptor on his wonderful creation.
I fell in love with its architecture and the creativity it took to carry out this project, it is a tourist stop not to be missed in Merida.

Hola amigos viajeros del mundo y amantes de las aventuras, viajar es algo que me apasiona muchísimo sobretodo porque conozco nuevos lugares que siempre había anhelado visitar y así vivir nuevas experiencias.
En mi segundo día visitando Mérida luego de conocer y recorrer detalladamente el Monumento del Perro Nevado nos dirigimos junto a nuestros compañeros de tour hacia la Capilla de Piedra un lugar sagrado y parte de nuestro Patrimonio Cultural.
La Capilla de Piedra es uno de esos sitios emblemáticos y turísticos que no había tenido la oportunidad de conocer de cerca ya que siempre que viajaba con mis padres seguíamos la Carretera Trasandina sin detenernos en la capilla, este importante templo religioso para los Merideños y quiénes le visitan se encuentra ubicada en el municipio San Rafael de Mucuchíes del estado Mérida justo al frente de la Biblioteca Pública "Juan Félix Sánchez y Epifanía Gil"
Fue diseñada por un gran artista y escultor llamado Juan Félix Sánchez y su construcción demoró un par de años, para poder colocar cada piedra de río en su lugar en distintos tonos de colores predominando las piedras grises y así poderle dar la forma con características arquitectónicas que posee que la hacen fascinante a la vista, además se edificó en honor a la Virgen de Coromoto quién es la patrona de nuestra amada Venezuela.
Su entrada principal posee algunas piedras que le brindan forma redondeada a sus bases principales y otras en las puntas del techo con formas similares a las de algunos santos o vírgenes, una estrella en la punta y en el centro dos marcos para ventanas con dos campanas que supongo se utilizan cunado se celebra alguna eucaristía importante en la zona, el resto de sus paredes laterales son también de piedra y su techo posee maderas con tejas rojas.
La Capilla de Piedra durante nuestra visita estaba repleta de turistas en horas de la mañana y aunque no se encontraba abierta, luego de recorrer su exterior me quedé observando con detenimiento las montañas a mi alrededor con sus distintos matices de color verde y marrón que me cautivan.
También había un monumento a lo que sería el inició de este lugar pero que vi al final de mi recorrido, con una base de piedra con una forma de cabeza en su superficie el cuál decía: "Homenaje realizado por Juan Felix Sánchez como testimonio de Amistad año 1992" qué es la firma de este importante escultor en su maravillosa creación.
Quedé enamorada de su arquitectura y de la creatividad que requirió llevar a cabo este proyecto, es una parada turística que no deben dejar de visitar en Mérida.
