In Isla Larga, Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, we find two old sunken merchant ships named Sesostris (German ship) and Jaco (Italian ship) with a great history, which dates back to 1939 at the beginning of the Second World War, where this area of the country was used for the passage of Italian and German ships because Venezuela had a neutral position in the war.
History tells us that Venezuela gave refuge to six Italian ships and one German ship, whose crew members had to wait almost two years for their request for refuge to be completed in order to stay in Venezuela while the ships were lodged in the Puerto Cabello pier and even the sailors could work and receive their pay for it, besides the locals were very happy to have them so they welcomed them.
In 1941 the president Franklyn D. Roosevelt of the United States wanted to force Venezuela to seize all the objects of the ships and belongings of the crew that were in the coasts and the crewmen when not agreeing with his will burned completely each ship so that the desire of the United States was not achieved only one of the ships was not burned because it had large amounts of oil and thus avoid a strong explosion.
The other five ships that were still operational after the explosion were refloated to the United States, except for the remains of the ships Sesostris and Jaco that were towed to Isla Larga by order of the president of the time Isaias Medina Angarita because they were badly burned and destroyed and it was impossible to rebuild them to be used again.
At present these ships are a great tourist attraction in Venezuela and are sunk almost in its entirety can be seen especially the remains of the Jaco which is on the shore quite rusty submerged between the white sand between the clear waters of the sea can only be seen part of its stern and houses marine life inside and even some fish on deck and algae can be seen, On the other hand, the Sesostris is submerged in its entirety and can only be seen with an aerial view or by tourists who usually dive in this area to observe each of the cabins, engine room and holds of the boats, it is said that very little can be seen clearly, however, those who dive live a great experience.
I had the opportunity to observe very closely but very carefully and it is amazing how both ships have many years in that area and although they are in corrosion, captivates each of the people who comes to meet them to relive the history of Sesostris and Jaco during the second world war told by the locals.

En Isla Larga, Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, nos encontramos con dos antiguos barcos mercantes que se encuentran hundidos y llevan por nombres Sesostris (barco alemán) y Jaco (barco italiano) con una gran historia, que se remonta a los años 1939 en pleno inicio de la segunda guerra mundial, donde está zona del país servía para el paso de barcos italianos y alemanes debido a que Venezuela tenía una posición neutral en la guerra.
La historia nos dice que Venezuela le dió refugio a seis barcos italianos y a un barco alemán, los cuales sus tripulantes debieron esperar casi dos años para que fuera completada su solicitud de refugio para quedarse en Venezuela mientras la embarcaciones se encontraban alojadas en el malecón de Puerto Cabello e incluso los marineros podían trabajar y recibir su paga por ello, además los lugareños se sentían muy felices de tenerlos así que los acogieron.
En 1941 el presidente Franklyn D. Roosevelt de Estados Unidos quería obligar a Venezuela a incautar todos los objetos de los barcos y pertenencias de la tripulación que se encontraban en las costas y los tripulantes al no estar de acuerdo con su voluntad quemaron por completo cada embarcación para que no se logrará el deseo de Estados Unidos solo una de las embarcaciones no fue incendiada por tener grandes cantidades de petróleo y así evitar así una fuerte explosión.
Los otros cinco barcos que quedaron aún operativos después de la explosión fueron reflotados a Estados Unidos, excepto los restos de los buques Sesostris y Jaco que fueron remolcados a Isla Larga por orden del presidente de la época Isaias Medina Angarita porque estaban bastante quemados y destruidos y era imposible volver a construirlos para ser usados nuevamente.
En la actualidad estos barcos son un gran atractivo turístico en Venezuela y se encuentran hundidos casi que en su totalidad pueden verse sobretodo los restos del Jaco que se encuentra en la orilla bastante oxidado sumergido entre la arena blanca entre las claras aguas del mar sólo puede verse parte de su popa y alberga vida marina en su interior e incluso pueden verse algunos peces en la cubierta y algas, en cambio el Sesostris si se encuentra sumergido en su totalidad y sólo se alcanza a ver con vista aérea o por los turistas que suelen bucear en ésta área para observar cada uno de los camarotes, sala de máquinas y bodegas de las embarcaciones, se habla que es muy poco lo que se puede ver con claridad sin embargo quienes bucean viven una gran experiencia.
Tuve la oportunidad de observar muy de cerca pero con mucho cuidado y es increíble como ambos barcos tienen muchos años en esa zona y aunque estén en corrosión, cautiva a cada una de las personas que se acerca a conocerlos para revivir la historia de Sesostris y Jaco durante la segunda guerra mundial contada por sus lugareños.
