I have to say, 20 years ago it was much harder to find proper Mexican food or even Tex Mex that far north. It is getting a lot better. You still can't beat the stuff closer to the border, though. I remember visiting my mom in Ketucky back in 2001 and tried to buy a pack of tortillas in Winn Dixie. I couldn't find a single pack. All they had was those packaged hard taco shells. Now, they have tortillas in the bread section just like in Texas or California.

Oh wow, we have quite a few options when it comes to tortillas, but I know what you are talking about with the hard shells. That is too bad. I've only had TexMex at a place down in Ohio and it was really delicious. The flavors just seemed deeper and more earthy. It was a nice change from the traditional Mexican American menu that most places have. It's both sad and comforting when totally separate restaurants on opposite sides of the country have the exact same menu down to the combo meals being the same number for order by number!
