Winter Season Escapade to Malta

in Worldmappin2 years ago

One of my favourites on this trip: Marsaxlokk

When living in Europe and you want to escape the cold weather during the winter season for a few days, you wouldn’t think of Malta right away. It is a small Island in the Mediterranean sea and could sometimes be overlooked when planning for holidays. The usual places Europeans would think of when yearning for sunshine, tropical weather and beaches would rather be perhaps the Caribbean, Hawaii or Bali. Malta wouldn’t easily come to mind if it wasn’t recommended by friends or if you didn’t see it on advertisements.

In our case, we luckily came across a vlog about Malta and we were instantaneously impressed of what it has to offer therefore it didn’t take us too long to decide and we swiftly booked a package deal of hotel with return flights for 7 days.

It may have been winter for most of Europe but in Malta it was warm and sunny for most of the days.

The cities we have visited were the following:

St Julian’s
Apparently, the party area of Malta where people would come together especially when the sun sets and they are off from work. It has many restaurants and stalls that offer different cuisines. Whether it is Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Middle Eastern or local food it’ll certainly satisfy your palate

Valetta
The Capital of Malta is such a lively city and it definitely has its unique charm. We visited the Upper Barrakka Gardens which provided us a fantastic view and then we simply roamed around the city and enjoyed the atmosphere. To round up the day we ate authentic Maltese dishes.

Parliament House of Malta

Mdina
The trip to the city was a treat on its own as we were able to ride a vintage bus which played music from a past era during the journey.

When we eventually got to Mdina, its gate alone was astonishing and as soon as you step foot into the city it felt like you have been transported back in time. There were two-wheeled-horse carriages and scenic side roads; no wonder some scenes for “Game of Thrones” were shot there.

Marsaxlokk
Is a fisherman’s village and if you have watched the series called “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” you would get the same vibe looking at Marsaxlokk. It wasn’t easy for us to get to the village from St. Julian’s. We had to take two buses and then walk for about 30 minutes if I remember correctly. Nonetheless, the effort was worth it because when we finally got there we had such a wonderful view. In addition to that they had seafood platters to enjoy by the seaside. Another 40 minutes uphill walk led us to St. Peter’s Pool where you could dip in if you wanted or just relish the view of the horizon.

If this couldn’t convince you, consider exploring Malta yourself. It is surely a nice place to spend your holidays in.

Happy journey! 😊
