Last weekend, we had the opportunity to visit the magnificent Vila Flor Palace, located in Guimarães, a historic city full of charm, history and tradition. Every time we come back here we discover a new place and this was no exception.
The palace, dating back to the 18th century, is one of the greatest landmarks in the city's architectural heritage, as such, a must-see for anyone visiting the city.

No passado fim de semana, tivemos a oportunidade de visitar o magnífico Palácio de Vila Flor, situado em Guimarães, uma cidade histórica repleta de charme, história e tradição. Sempre que cá voltamos descobrimos um sitio novo e este foi não foi excepção.
O palácio, remonta ao século XVIII,e é um dos maiores marcos do património arquitetónico da cidade, como tal, um local obrigatório para quem visita a cidade.
The palace building, in Baroque style, has a facade that stands out for the beauty of its windows and the symmetry of its architectural lines. We didn't visit the interior because we had an exhibition we wanted to see and we didn't have time for everything.

O edifício do palácio, de estilo barroco, apresenta uma uma fachada que se destaca pela beleza das janelas e pela simetria das linhas arquitetônicas. Não efetuamos a visita ao interior pois tínhamos uma exposição que queríamos ver e não teríamos tempo para tudo.
We then begin to walk through the gardens that surround the palace, which are an attraction in their own right, reflecting the refined taste of their former owners.
I noticed that there were several Japanese trees with different colors of flowers. Camellia is a delicate but very beautiful flower.

Começamos então a caminhar pelos jardins que rodeiam o palácio e que são uma atração à parte, refletindo o gosto requintado dos seus antigos proprietários.
Reparei que existiam várias Japoneiras com diversas cores de flores. A camélia é uma flor delicada mas muito muito bonita.
As we move forward, we can observe the diversity of plants and the well-thought-out layout of the space, with areas of green grass, water fountains and small lakes that give a feeling of peace. Nature seems to be in perfect harmony with the architecture of the palace and the silence that can be felt right next to a main avenue is wonderful. The sculptures and decorative elements spread throughout the garden are another highlight, always with a touch of sophistication.

À medida que avançamos, podemos observar a diversidade de plantas e o layout bem pensado do espaço, com áreas de relva verde, fontes de água e pequenos lagos que conferem uma sensação de paz. A natureza parece estar em perfeita harmonia com a arquitetura do palácio e o silencio que se faz sentir mesmo ao lado de uma avenida principal é maravilhoso. As esculturas e os elementos decorativos espalhados pelo jardim são outro ponto de destaque, sempre com um toque de sofisticação.
During our tour, something delightful happened: an engagement photo session was taking place in the palace gardens. The bride walked along the dirt paths through the grass, while the groom watched her with a look full of love and affection. The air was charged with emotion and, at the same time, with beauty, as if the palace and gardens themselves had been made for this special moment. Both of their parents (I believe) were watching movedly and at this point I wished (in my thoughts) that they were very happy and that they continued to look as if there was no one else around them :-)
It was wonderful to watch this moment. The soft sunlight, filtered through the trees in the garden, gave an even more beautiful touch to the images being captured by the photographer's lenses.

Durante o nosso passeio, algo encantador aconteceu: uma sessão de fotografias de noivado estava a decorrer nos jardins do palácio. A noiva, caminhava pelos caminhos de terra por entre a relva, enquanto o noivo a observava com um olhar cheio de amor e carinho. O ar estava carregado de emoção e, ao mesmo tempo, de beleza, como se o próprio palácio e os jardins tivessem sido feitos para este momento especial. Os pais de ambos (creio eu) assistiam enternecidos e nesta altura desejei (no meu pensamento) que fossem muito felizes e que se continuassem a olhar como se não existisse mais ninguém à sua volta :-)
Foi maravilhoso observar este momento. A luz suave do sol, filtrada pelas árvores do jardim, dava um toque ainda mais bonito às imagens que estavam a ser captadas pelas lentes da fotógrafa.
The Vila Flor Palace was a place that impressed us with its architectural beauty, its breathtaking gardens and the serenity it conveys. A perfect place for those who want to discover the cultural heritage of Guimarães and, at the same time, experience special moments.

It is undoubtedly a beautiful palace with interesting architecture but also with an abundant and colorful natural environment for the palace.
