Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

Sé Catedral de Santa Maria - EXTERIOR.jpg

Continuing our discovery of Viseu we went to Adro da Sé, one of the most emblematic places in the city, it is an experience that reveals the city's deep cultural and religious heritage.
It is a large square located in the historic center, surrounded by historic buildings that tell the story of the city over the centuries. In the center of this space, the majestic Sé Cathedral of Viseu stands out and also a cross with the coat of arms of Bishop D.Júlio de Oliveira.

Around it, tourists or visitors (like us) find several points of interest. One of these points is the Grão Vasco Museum, located in the former Paço dos Três Escalões. In this museum we find a wide collection of art, including works by Vasco Fernandes, known as Grão Vasco, one of the most important Portuguese Renaissance painters.
Another notable building in the Adro da Sé is the Igreja da Misericórdia, located in front of the cathedral. But I already told you about this in one of the previous posts.

While strolling through the Adro da Sé, visitors can appreciate typical sidewalks of the historic center of Viseu. These surrounding streets are full of old houses, traditional shops, cafes and restaurants that offer the opportunity to taste traditional local food and relax while soaking up the city's historic atmosphere.
We then head to the entrance of Sé Esta, whose construction began in the 12th century and makes it an example of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, with baroque elements that were added later.
The Cathedral is an imposing monument, with a facade with different architectural styles, the result of various phases of construction and remodeling over the centuries.

I personally spent a few long minutes observing the details and trying to absorb what my eyes were showing me.
We chose to enter through the cloister that connects to the interior of the cathedral.
The restoration work is incredible and the tile wall that you can see in the photos was very well done. The stone is crafted to perfection and the wooden doors make us travel back in time.

The sun illuminates the space and gives it a welcoming atmosphere and the silence that is very present allows us to escape the noise right next door.
In short, a walk through the Adro da Sé in Viseu is a journey through time, where history, art and architecture come together to provide a unique experience. The Cathedral, with its grandeur and beauty, is the central point of this journey. Tomorrow I'll show you the interior, which is one of the most spectacular I've ever seen!

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
