Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
Lapel, despite being small, has a lot of history.
The visit began with a walk through the train station and the streets of the town, where the charm of a more peaceful time can still be felt, before heading to one of the most emblematic points in the area.

The Lapela Tower, classified as a National Monument, is one of the oldest and most important structures in the town. What remains of the old Lapela Castle, which once defended the region, is a robust square tower, built on a hill that offers a privileged view of the surrounding landscape. Although the castle has been subject to several alterations and destructions over the centuries, the tower remains as a testament to a past when it served not only as a defense, but also as a symbol of power.

This tower challenges us to imagine life in the Middle Ages, when the village was a strategic point in the defense of the region. Next to the Tower, we can find several granaries, typical buildings from the Minho region, used to store corn and other cereals. These granaries give the place a picturesque character, which reminds us of the agricultural culture of the area, still very present in the lives of the local inhabitants.

The tour continues to the Church of Lapela, a building of great religious importance. Located near the Tower, this church represents a link between the community's past and present.

Leaving the church behind, the path takes us to the banks of the River Minho, one of the largest rivers in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the main waterways in the region. This river, which separates Portugal from Spain, plays a fundamental role in the lives of local populations, not only because of its historical and strategic importance, but also because of its influence on economic activities, such as agriculture and fishing. The banks of the Minho are also the ideal place for a walk and to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The tranquility of the river contrasts with the rhythm of the village, creating an environment of balance.

The tower, the church, with its spirituality, and the river, with its serenity, make this tour an unforgettable experience. It was a wonderful surprise that stopped us in time for a few hours.

Lapela looks like such a cool place to explore! It must’ve felt like stepping into another time for a while.
What a spectacle of a place. The church caught my attention, it looks a lot like some I have seen in Venezuela. It is interesting.
The tower is incredible. It takes you back to medieval times without a doubt.
