Good day community

The island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands archipelago north of the African continent has one of the most amazing and lush natural parks that I have been able to see on this adventure around the island. With a completely changing landscape and dividing the centre of the volcanic island of La Gomera into strips, one of the oldest in the archipelago, it has special characteristics and a forest ecosystem between high and steep mountains that form this island. As it has a very warm climate almost all year round and is protected from the ocean winds, the Garajonay park is a spectacle of vegetation. On the inland route around the island, one of the highest areas in the interior houses what in the Canary Islands are called "Roques" and which are steep and rocky peaks that stand out and reach the highest altitude of the points where they are found. I stopped at one of the most popular and emblematic of the island, the Roque de Agando to admire this unique landscape due to its characteristics.

On this trip to the centre of the park I followed a mountainous road full of curves and viewpoints where you can stop to observe the amazing landscape. If you plan to visit this island I suggest you bring your car on the ferry that connects the islands or rent one in La Gomera itself. The island is not very big but to visit these fabulous places you need a vehicle to be able to get close to it and move around it due to the type of mountainous and winding topography of the island. Along the way I stopped at points that allowed me to stop and observe from them. The mimicry and preservation of these places was amazing and many of these viewpoints went almost unnoticed if I was not paying close attention.

Little by little I was getting closer to the heart of the Garajonay National Park. I turned off onto a path that indicated that I was arriving at the Lurdes hermitage and after travelling a few kilometres, 2 or 3, I arrived at a wide area where I could park to start the path and enter deep into the tropical forest. There were several marked and well-signposted paths or routes, so the possibility of getting lost in this labyrinth was remote. As I continued along the path, the vegetation became more dense, hanging moss on the tree trunks, ferns and tropical plants mixed and adapted to these altitudes and special climate had me absorbed in this spectacular path.

In a deep area of the park, about 4 kilometers from where I had parked, I came to a clearing where I found the small hermitage of Lourdes among dense vegetation. I was very surprised to find this oasis in the middle of a mountain slope in a small flat area of the forest. I read the signs and later found out about what is celebrated in this beautiful building.

After an intense tour of this park and its forests, the day was coming to an end and my intention was to take some pictures of the haze that sometimes covers the island. I headed to Roque de Agando but this time from another viewpoint to observe the three peaks and also see how the mist from the island began to cover the entire landscape as the evening fell.
