The Silver Route is a route that crosses the Iberian Peninsula from north to south in the west of the country. Its origin dates back to the beginnings of the metal market, as metals were transported along this important route from south to north of the country, from present-day Gijón to the city of Seville. Later, it became a Roman road and later one of the most important pilgrimage routes to the city of Santiago de Compostela, where the remains of the apostle are found. In the part of the community of Extremadura and among olive groves, pastures and hills, there are many scattered towns with historical characteristics that are united but also differentiated in certain stages. My journey through the mountains in the southern part of the community led me to visit several small towns that coincide and are established on this route and I decided to visit castles and places of interest in this region. Thus, I arrived at Puebla de Sancho Pérez after leaving the towns of Mérida and Zafra to the north.

Upon arrival, a tour of the white streets typical of this part of the country until finding the center of the town, its main square and town hall. I went to look for a place to stay and then always look for information about the place, in this case it was in the same lodging where they informed me of what I could see and told me about the proximity of a castle that was not far from the town. The important places to visit in this small town of Puebla de Sancho Pérez were the 17th century church of Santa Lucía, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Belén and the Balneario del Raposo.

On the way, a fresh produce market caught my attention and I stopped for a while walking around stalls selling fruit, vegetables and legumes, olives and also some samples of pottery from the region. I wanted to look at these products in detail and I was particularly interested in the ceramics as it is something that always draws my attention when I visit places. In each area or region, the products made with baked clay and their glazes and decorations are completely different and they reflect the local craftsmanship, its uses and also its peculiarities in each region.
I continued on my way and moved away from the village through fields of olive trees and oaks to reach the next points of interest in this town, the small hermitage and the spa. I walked along a sandy path between stone farm enclosures in these mountain ranges in the southern part of the province of Badajoz, very close to the province of Huelva in Andalusia. The landscape was clearly Mediterranean and typical of this region of the planet. Tourism in this part is very little crowded and it is a pleasure to walk through these places almost in solitude, silence and the sound of space, birds and the wind.
A few kilometres south of the town of Puebla de Sancho Pérez is the castle of Dos Torres, which I was able to see from a good distance to get a better perspective and an idea of what this fortification meant in this landscape. Its access by dirt roads and its position on top of the hill made it impregnable. It was built at the time of the reconquest of the Christian kingdoms from the Arabs and is also known as the “Torre de los Moros”. The Order of Santiago was present in its history and the legends about this fortress indicate its importance in that historical period.

Every time I see your publications I am impressed by how each town preserves its architecture and everything that has to do with its own culture. Greetings !
In most cases, cultural and architectural heritage is highly respected, but in other cases, modification over the centuries has been inevitable. I am glad that you find these reports to be an example of this heritage that belongs to all of us without distinction, since our global culture is linked to it. @wilfredocav
