The beginning of this trip to the archipelago began in the city of Seville, where flights to the islands are frequent and, due to its location in the south of the country, it made my departure to the islands easier. The autonomous community of the Canary Islands is a group of several islands of volcanic origin located north of the African continent in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. After informing myself well about the conditions that I would find at this time of year at the beginning of December, I prepared to spend a few days on one of its islands, specifically the island of La Gomera. I knew that the weather in the archipelago at this time of year is excellent with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees constant, so my luggage was light since I was not going to need much clothing to move around in them. The flight from Seville took me to the island of Tenerife with a duration of about two and a half hours and there I would connect with the flight in search of my destination, the island of La Gomera, half an hour away by plane from the island of Tenerife.
El comienzo de este viaje al archipiélago lo inicie partiendo de la ciudad de Sevilla donde los vuelos a las islas son frecuentes y por su localización al sur del país me facilito mí salida hacia las islas. La comunidad autónoma de Canarias es un conjunto de varias islas de origen volcánico situado al norte del continente Africano en las aguas del Océano Atlántico. Después de informarme bien sobre las condiciones que me encontraría en esta época del año a principios del mes de diciembre me prepare para pasar unos días en una de sus islas, en concreto la isla de La Gomera. Sabía que el tiempo en el archipiélago en esta época del año es excelente con temperaturas entre los 20 y 25 grados constantes así que mi equipaje era ligero ya que no iba a necesitar mucha ropa para moverme en ellas. El vuelo de Sevilla me llevo a la isla de Tenerife con una duración de unas dos horas y media y allí enlazaría con el vuelo en busca de mi destino, la isla de La Gomera a una media hora de distancia en avión de la isla de Tenerife.
The trip / El viaje
The first aerial views of the island of La Gomera gave me an idea of what I was going to find in this Atlantic paradise due to its morphology and the first glimpses of the landscapes that I was going to encounter. Upon my arrival at the airport, I rented a vehicle so that I could get around and visit the towns and most notable places on the island. I went from the airport to a small town very close to the airport, Playa de Santiago, where I stayed in an apartment and from there began the tour of the entire island. The town was very small but it gave me an idea of what I would find on this island adventure. The rugged landscape of remote volcanic origin left me with the first impressions. The cliffs and cuts of the mountain, the type of rock formations, and the location in a small valley at the foot of the coast indicated to me that this experience was going to be completely different from those I had lived until now.
Las primeras vistas aéreas de la Isla de la Gomera me daban una idea de lo que me iba a encontrar en este paraíso atlántico por su morfología y las primeras pinceladas de paisajes que me iba a encontrar. A mi llegada al aeropuerto alquile un vehículo para poderme desplazar y visitar las poblaciones y los lugares más destacados de la misma. Me dirigí desde el aeropuerto a una pequeña localidad muy cercana al mismo, Playa de Santiago donde me hospede en un apartamento para desde allí comenzar el recorrido por toda la isla. La población era muy pequeña pero me daba una idea de lo que me encontraría en esta aventura isleña. Lo abrupto del paisaje de un remoto origen volcánico me dejaba las primeras impresiones. Los acantilados y cortadas de la montaña, el tipo de formaciones rocosas, y la situación en un pequeño valle a pie de la costa me indicaban que esta experiencia iba a ser completamente distinta de las que había vivido hasta ahora.
The small town of Playa de Santiago gave me a taste of the local architecture, small buildings that were recently built or many of them restored and adapted to the current situation on the island. In this southern part of the island the landscape is quite arid and it gave me a small taste of what I was going to find on the tour around the entire perimeter of the island. The colorful buildings and the strong contrast that it represents for someone who comes from the peninsula at this time of year, December, with the Christmas lights and decorations and such a warm climate amazed me. I changed my clothes and put on something comfortable and light, a sleeveless shirt, shorts and sandals. This situation of seeing the beginning of Christmas for me was something new and seemed very exotic, I loved this contrast.
La pequeña localidad de la Playa de Santiago me daba una muestra del tipo de arquitectura local, edificios pequeños de reciente construcción o muchos de ellos restaurados y adaptados a la actual situación de la isla. En esta parte sur de la isla el paisaje es bastante árido y me mostraba un pequeño aperitivo de lo que me iba a encontrar en el recorrido por todo el perímetro de la misma. Los coloridos de los edificios y el fuerte contraste que supone para alguien que viene de la península en esta época del año, mes de diciembre, con las luces y adornos de navidad con un clima tan cálido me asombraba. Me cambie de ropa y me puse algo cómodo y ligero, camiseta sin mangas, pantalones cortos y sandalias. Esta situación de ver empezar a vivir la Navidad para mí era algo nuevo y se me hacía muy exótico, me encanto este contraste.
From this point and on this first day of contact with La Gomera I began a journey through the surroundings on winding roads and through canyons between the mountains of this area of the island. I was surprised how as I advanced the vegetation, palm trees, maguey, cacti and small bushes adapted to the region dominated this part of the route. The rock formations were surprising and always constant throughout this area. Later, as I advanced and traveled around the island I realized the many different ecosystems that La Gomera houses and why it is declared a World Heritage Site, since surprises awaited me in all the parts I was able to visit.
Desde este punto y en este primer día de contacto con la Gomera inicie un recorrido por la cercanía por carreteras serpenteantes y por cañones entre las montañas de esta zona de la isla. Me sorprendía como en la medida que iba avanzando el topo de vegetación, palmeras, maguey, cactus y pequeños arbustos adaptados a la región dominaban esta parte del recorrido. Las formaciones rocosas eran sorprendentes y siempre constantes en toda esta zona. Más tarde al ir avanzando y recorriendo la isla me di cuenta de los muchos ecosistemas diferentes que la Gomera alberga y porque está declarada como patrimonio de la humanidad ya que me esperaban sorpresas en todas las partes que pude visitar.
The landscape was very changeable and I stopped in a small town where I found out about the best routes. They explained to me that the island was divided into three distinct strips and adapted to the winds and geographical position of the island, making them completely different from each other.
El paisaje era muy cambiante y paré en una pequeña localidad donde me informe de los mejores recorridos. Me explicaron que la isla estaba como dividida en tres franjas distintas y adaptadas a los vientos y posición geográfica de la misma haciéndolas completamente diferentes unas de otras.

The difficulty was with the airplane windows, which were double and somewhat dirty. I thought they would come out more blurry.
