Namaste 🙏

Hope you are doing great!!!

Today I’m gonna take you on a journey to the most peaceful place of Mussoorie that’s away from all the hustle and bustle of the town and yet very close to it. It’s a kind of place that you’ll surely fall in love with. Amazing views, best sunsets fresh and tranquil air and peaceful vibes of monastery makes this place one of a kind. It’s quite close to the Dalai hills and is constructed on a cliff.

Dalai Hills

If you walk straight, you’ll reach Dalai hills but if you turn right, you’ll see this beautiful entrance gates with vibrant colours and that’s the main entrance to the monastery. There are many scooters parked outside the gate as most people rent a scooter to roam around the town. We also rented a scooter and parked it in the parking space.

We reached there around evening time and sun was about to set. This was the perfect time to visit as the evening sun made it more vibrant. There was a small market with a few shops which sold food items as well such as corn etc.

There was a pathway which led to another smaller gate that led us inside the campus. It’s wall was decorated with Tibetan artwork and on the right side of the pathway there was a very good restaurant that offers a very beautiful view of the mountains.

It is on the edge of the mountain and has a very unique vibe to it. It perfect for witnessing the perfect sunset with s coffee or having a morning tea with sunrise views.

As soon as you enter the campus you are greeted with instant peace. You can feel it from within. You don’t have to do anything to feel it. There is something about the vibration of this place that you will feel peace from within. It might be the daity chanting that monks do or it can also be the prayer flags that are hanging all so around here.

The entry gate of the temple

As soon as you enter through the gate, the temple will be standing right in front of you. You’ll see the name of the monastery Shedup Choephelling Buddhist Temple written on the top of the monastery.

When we walked towards the center of the campus, we witnessed some of the best views ever seen from Mussoorie. The sun was slowly setting behind the lower Himalayas and the long sun rays were spreading gold on this monestry.

It was really a spectacular view of the sun slowly getting down behind the little mountain. We sat at the edge of the campus and witnessed this beautiful phenomenon.

The monastery is quite newly constructed one. It’s not like the old churches of Landour that I mentioned in my previous blogs. This is because Tibetan refugees came to India before 50-60 years and this monastery was constructed a lot after that.

While we were revolving around the monastery, we came across this huge prayer wheel. We got in the small cabin that was made for it and rotated this big wheel.

There were many plants that were planted around the monastery campus. It was full of greenery. There were many flowers too that weren’t ready at the time when we visited. We wondered how beautiful it would look in full bloom.

We also got to know that there was a Tibetan school near to the monastery where children are educated in the traditional way. You can see the photo of the school in the photo below.

The holy stupa

There was also a holy stupa on the way of our parikrama or rotation. It’s a ritual that you need to rotate around the monastery and revolve the prayer wheels around it to complete your visit.

Photographs were not allowed inside the monastery so I was able to capture only the below two photos for you guys. You can still get the idea of inside from these two.

It was so meditative inside of the monastery. We sat inside for a few minutes and our minds were filled with peace and tranquility of this place. It’s indeed a really holy feeling that can’t be expressed in words.

That’s all for today.

Peace ☮️
