Namaste 🙏

Hope you are doing great!!!

Exploring the streets of Dehradun in autorickshaw-

After spending a week in Mussoorie and Landour, we came back to Dehradun. We reached around 3 PM in the evening and decided to explore the town in an auto rickshaw. It was a good decision as we had a lot of fun. We checked in at our airbnb that was a little outwards of the main town. After spending and hour there and having a little rest, we booked an auto rickshaw and started our journey.

One benefit of roaming around in an autorickshaw is that you get to see everything up close, in other words, as it open from sides, there’s nothing in between you and the outside views. You experience the world in its raw form. You get the feel of temperature, the air, smells and everything in between which is not at all possible in a traditional car.

As our bnb was a few kilometres away from the town, we firstly had to ride on the highway. We saw the Dehradun downtown from our autorickshaw and moved towards the main market of the town, Paltan Bazar.

Our autorickshaw driver was very polite. He told us about all the important places and facts about the places from where we were passing. We didn’t realised when we reached the Paltan Market as we were so engaged in the chitchat with the driver.

Entering Paltan Bazar —

We reached Paltan Bazar around the sunset time and it was slowly covering in evening golden colours. It already was very crowded with many scooters going here and there and people roaming around and it was not even the peak time now.

As it was the season of marriages, there were a couple of band members roaming in the streets. They might be going to a wedding and seeing them dressed in their band uniforms made them look unique and thus I captured their photo.

There are many shops in the Paltan Bazar that are made inside the old buildings. Some of those buildings are about 100 years old and you can clearly tell that after looking at the architectural style they are built in.

The streets of Paltan Bazar are quite narrow. Inspite of that, scooters are allowed inside of the market that’s a really big issue considering the amount of traffic it produces. For now, we were not seeing much rush but we were expecting to see some drama in the late evening time.

There are many kinds of shops present there from cloths shop to vegetable and fruit vendors, this being the main market of the town has everything in one place.

It was already dark after roaming for around half and hour or so in the market. Now we reached towards the end of the market where the famous Ghanta Ghar or clock tower is situated. It was around 7:00 PM when we were standing there and at that time we heard the bell ring in the tower. That’s how I remember the exact time of us being there. It was a quite loud ring that I can’t forget.

We were a little hungry now after roaming around for a while so we decided to have some street food. We found this shop where many people were eating and we also had went there.

We had gol gappas or pani puri there. It was amazing. We had three plates of pani puri that day as it was very tasty. All the flavours were present in those pani puries.

It was time to get back now. Also, it was time for peak hours of the Paltan bazar. It was overcrowded now and we were finding it very difficult to find our way around. You can probably see in the pictures how crowded this place got in the evening time.

That’s all for today.
