For me, traveling is one of the greatest joys in my life. Today I would like to introduce another of my favorite Thai islands! If you visit once, you could also find a sense of beauty and peace that you may never forget again.
Koh Chang is a large island in the eastern province of Thailand. An island full of comfort that has plenty of privacy as well. The journey is not too difficult. We start by taking a ferry from Trat Province and heading to sea towards Koh Chang.
There are 2 pier points to travel to Koh Chang, namely the Ao Thammachat pier and the Center Point Pier. We can check the ferry schedule from the pier's website for easy transport.
When arriving, we chose to take the last departure of the day. Therefore, while riding the boat, we were able to see the gorgeous sunset and enjoy the cool evening air.
The boat takes about 30 minutes to travel across the sea between the mainland and the island. When we get close, we can see an island that is horizontal to the water, which I imagine is shaped like a father and son elephants swimming together. What do you think? Can you see it too?
After getting off the boat, we head towards our accommodations, but on the island, driving can be quite difficult. If anyone is not good at driving, we recommend using the songthaew service or a mini bus on the island to take you to your accommodations. The total service fee will be around 300-500฿ ($10-$15) but if waiting to share with other passengers The price is only 50 ฿ ($1.50) per person, but it may require a bit of waiting.
Is not difficult to find food here. In the middle of the island there is a pedestrian street for walking. You can find Thai food at reasonable prices, which includes options for everyone such as seafood, various fruits, or if you prefer to stop by and eat at one of the restaurants, there is a wide variety of both Thai and foreign food.
If you forget to bring personal items here, there are also many supermarkets open until all hours of the night.
In terms of accommodations, this island is divided into two parts: seaside and mountainside. If you're interested in visiting Koh Chang it's advised to check the details of your lodging before booking. As for us, we always choose the sea. There's nothing quite like waking up and wanting to jump into the water. Let's explore the beach side, hehe.
On Koh Chang at various resorts or hotels, they have beautiful locations set up for relaxing by the beach. There are also plenty of places to take photos. You could even take enough to have a years worth of uploads!
For anyone who likes peace and quiet, it is recommended to choose a place to stay in the deeper part of the island and you won't have to worry much about food, because at most resorts and hotels, food and drinks are available on site. Watch out though, there may be a slightly increased service charge for the convenience.
For a change of pace, I wanted to walk around and see the lifestyle of the local fishermen. I can certainly recommend visiting Baan Bang Bao. In the past, every family's main occupation was fishing, but when Koh Chang became known as a tourist attraction, the villagers then adapted to work as tour boat operators. So now they can take tourists snorkeling instead.
If you enjoy mysterious places, then you must go to the innermost part of Koh Chang. You will find the ghost ship hotel closed down probably due to the worsening economy and mysterious stories passed on by the locals, because someone once fell to their death from a hotel on the 7th floor. Currently the inside of the ship is no longer open for viewing, but tourists can still walk outside and take photos and enjoy the beautiful and secluded private beach area.
Another spectacular site that can't be missed is the Kai Bae Viewpoint where you can enjoy a 180 degree view of the assortment of nearby islands. There is even a cafe so you can sit back and enjoy the chill atmosphere all day long.
In the evening, don't forget to take some chic sunset photos! Try stopping by at the White Sand Beach area. Which is one of my favorites!
