When I think of Hong Kong, I think about amazing food, efficient MTR travel and shopping, but there's another side of this wonderful place. Camping!
Hong Kong has a unique camping option. On Lantau peak there is a small beach seldom visited by tourists. It's a spot locals know, but you won't see it in many guidebooks. Good thing you, my smart reader found my article on Travelfeed.
Lantau peak is the home of Pui O campsite it's a natural beach which is a great spot to visit for a day, see the ocean, grab some bbq with a friend or maybe just visit the water buffaloes.
One of the coolest things about the Pui O beach is that you can grab a free camping spot and camp for free! It’s first come first serve for the spots so come early, and be prepared.
Being a secret beach, it’s great for bringing some food to grill on the free BBQ, catching some sun and enjoying the view. They provide them.
It’s surprisingly easy to get there. Take the mtr to tung Chung station, transfer onto the bus and then you’ll be there super fast.
This little beach site is perfect for a day or 2 of camping and fun. The biggest cost to visiting Hong Kong, is definitely the cost of lodging, so if you do want to visit? This beach and campsite is a great option.
I know I'll be back when Covid is gone, and I hope you all will visit me there too! Let's pet some water buffalos (maybe not a good idea, heh heh) and grill some skewers while we drink beer on the beach.
