Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!
Usually, museums are not really my thing as I am known to prefer the natural, outdoorsy stuff when it comes to exploring new places but since Krakow, this beautiful Polish city with a remarkably long and rich history, has been our nomadic base for one year already, I figured it´s kind of appropriate to visit at least some of the local museums.
There are many museums in Krakow and they further divide into different branches. The Historical Museum of Krakow must be one of the largest as it includes almost 20 branches or "sub museums" if you will. These include, for example, the Town Hall Tower, the Barbican Museum, the Old Synagogue, the City Defensive Walls, the Oskar Schindler´s Factory, the Gestapo Prison, the Podgorze Museum or the Rynek Underground. This post will be dedicated to the last one - the Rynek Underground.
There are at least 2 reasons that makes the Rynek Underground Museum special and different from the other Krakow museums. First, the entire complex of this museum is actually located under the ground, just below the surface of the main square in the very heart of the historic center of the city. And second, the museum is super modern and interactive, featuring a variety of latest technologies such as holograms, fog machines, touch screens, loudspeakers, projectors etc. All these technologies were used to achieve one goal - to recreate the unique atmosphere of medieval Krakow. That´s right - the tour around the Rynek Underground is the tour around Krakow in the medieval times and yes, it´s as cool as it sounds :) This museum was opened as recently as in 2010 and the creators did a really great job there. The whole complex covers a total area of more than 6,000 sq m (approximately 65,000 sq ft) and you can easily spend a couple of hours there, watching the exhibits and even interacting with some of them, all of that while soaking the very special atmosphere of the medieval city.
The illumination of the museum is very special too as it was designed to further intensify the overall atmosphere of the place, which is cool of course but actually not so cool if you want to take some photos there and you can bet I wanted that :D Generally, the place is very dark, mostly illuminated just by the fire holograms plus there are also colored spotlights focused on certain sections and exhibits, which makes for some very challenging environment for a photographer but let me now show you some of the pictures that I took in there. We will start out with a series of photos taken at different parts of the museum. As you will see, some exhibits are displayed in the remnants of the actual medieval tracts that were discovered under the main square.
And now I will share a couple of shots with you that I took in a little auditorium where the history of Krakow is projected in pictures on the wall. The photos cannot really do justice to the presentation but it was really impressive and highly educational. In fact, the Czech history has been connected with the Polish one at many points so a number of the names and historic events depicted in the presentation were familiar to me. Disclaimer: I am sorry but I guess I mixed the photos up a bit when editing so not all of them will be chronologically ordered...
I hope you enjoyed this post that was dedicated to the Rynek Underground, one of the branches of the Historical Museum of Krakow. If you are a history fan and happen to be in Krakow, you should really check out this place as it was a great experience even for me, someone who is not interested in history that much... The museum is open every day except Sunday. The regular price is 28 Polish Zloty (approximately 6 EUR or 7 USD) but on certain days, you can visit it for free, just like we did. To find out more about this interesting museum, feel free to visit their official website.
Posts about other Krakow museums that we have visited here, including the famous Oskar Schindler´s Factory, will show up here on my blog soon so stay tuned ;) Thanks for your attention everyone, have a nice day.
Rynek Underground Museum. No wonder it's under the city, Sherlock {kidding, you know I love you hihihih}
That injure to the head must have hurt as fucks. Any background on that?
I see what you did there, Watson! :D
That skull... I think the hole was actually a result of a "surgery" but I am not sure...
Brutal and scary \o\

Yay! Thank you so much! :) Honored indeed, especially in such a tough competition, really appreciate it.
I am so glad that you were able to visit this (and for free!) There are so many historical pieces of history in Krakow and what a great place to be stuck in.
Getting the realness of it, such a horrific sight, and I am glad that it was not destroyed with so many other things. I never want the world to forget what hatred does. Your pictures came out impressively, the lighting does nobody any favors in places like this, but, you managed to make it look easy.
Thank you and I hope you are having a wonderful week!
Thank you very much Denise. Yes, the Middle Ages are also known as the Dark Ages for a reason... Although this museum doesn´t actually include any instruments of torture (unlike many other medieval museums), there is still this harsh feel to it. Glad you liked the photos, I did my best but the light conditions were really bad so the quality of most of them is not good :/
Have a nice day too :)

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 40/100) Liquid rewards.
Thank you for the support :)
Museum a home of history I really like the pics with the fire is that actually a real fire or artwork lol.
Yeah, it was all very realistically looking :) Thanks for checking out the photos.
Super, mám ráda taková tmavá místa, kde tu a tam nečekaně narazíš na kostru :D Hned u prvních řádků mě napadlo, že bys v tom Krakově už mohl dělat průvodce ;)
Kostry už tak nějak k muzeím patří, ne? :D Tak něco málo už jsme tady za ten rok prochodili no... Ale i tak pořád ještě objevujeme zajímavá místa, o kterých jsme nevěděli ;) Je to holt velké město s mimořádně pestrou historií.
Very amazing. I am a big fan of history so I really would like to visit this museum. I always think that museums seem like the soul of a city because it brings us back to to the past. Those are splendid moments. Thank you for your really nice pictures and sharing. ^^
Thank you very much for your kind feedback, I am glad you enjoyed this little museum tour :)
You're welcome ☺️
Velmi zajímavé.

Díky :) Zas něco trošku jiného... Jsem zvědav, co vybereš do soutěže :)
Už teď mám z toho hlavu v pejru :-)
Hezké fotky se ti přesto podařily pořídit! :)
No já si to úplně nemyslím, ale ilustrační účely to snad splnilo :) Díky.
This post was very interesting. Can't wait to read other posts. I love history, and like you say Krakow is full of it. Also photos look great.
Thank you! I can see you are a great photographer so it really means a lot coming from you, although this is definitely not one of my best photo posts. In fact, I didn´t even dare to submit it in the Photography Lovers Community where I submit most of my photo posts, simply because the shots are not good enough. Instead, I shared it with the travel community as it surely is a place that is worth visiting. If you like history, you should really visit Krakow one day ;)
Another report on an underground museum, very nice pics, thanks
Not sure what you mean by "another" but thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the pictures :)
Honestly, I'm a little scared to see this museum, it smells like magic here, but this place is also cool, teaches about past civilizations
Well, the Middle Ages were quite scary times so a medieval museum must be quite a scary place too :) There is this magic feel to it indeed, you are right. Thanks for checking it out though!
Awesome place to visist, i wonder the chain of events that let all of those items survive time until now, they passed thru a lot of harsh times. Nice work!
Yeah, good point... The website says some of the exhibits date back to as long as 7 centuries ago... Someone did a great preservation job here I guess :)
Awesome to see you work back in Haveyoubeenhere community. Once again, you manage to impress your followers. Cam't wait to see what else you have to offer in the future!
Thanks man :) I would post it in the Photography Lovers Community as usually but I simply didn´t think the shots were good enough for that this time... The extreme light conditions of the museum took its toll.
Wow lovely pictures all look real like as if am there myself
Thanks, was a pleasure to take you there through the photos :)

That´s a good question. The Czech and Polish languages are not as similar as the Czech and Slovakian (in fact, these two are almost identical, we used to be one country for a long time) but we can understand quite a lot. Especially people from regions near the Czech - Polish borders like me ;)
Yeah, same here haha :D Not your typical museum guy but sometimes, it doesn´t hurt to visit one :)
