CHARMING OLD SQUARE AT HAVANA, CUBA.

in Worldmappin2 days ago (edited)

Dear Hiver!
Today I am once again walking the streets of Havana.... Fortunately I made a magnificent interprovincial trip by train. That motivates my trip today I'm sure you will want to know .... because I contacted a Havana gallery for a future exhibition. A few days ago I visited this space to accompany some friends who made the presentation of a book and I discovered a magnificent exhibition there. I will talk about this exhibition soon

It turns out that this gallery is inside one of the buildings whose facade faces the cathedral square. This square is one of the iconic places of Old Havana, the oldest part of the city. In those times the small city on the shores of Havana was surrounded by a wall to protect it, the square is located at the confluence of Empedrado and San Ignacio streets. The Cathedral and the rest of the buildings that are located in its limits are from the century XVIII. That is why many consider this place as an authentic Museum of the Cuban Baroque.

This is a very visited place by tourists. It is an important part of our religious and socio-cultural history. Emblematic buildings such as: The Cathedral of San Cristobal de la Habana, the Palace of Conde de Lombillo, the Palace of the Marquises of Aguas Claras, the Palace of the Marquis of Arcos are samples of historical and cultural wealth that encloses this square. These old buildings also house modern institutions, as is the case of the Palace of the Counts of Casa Bayona, which has been converted into the Museum of Colonia Art.

The square also hosts concerts, fairs and other important community activities. It is a colorful space, full of light and centuries-old traditions. Even the figure of the famous Spanish dancer Antonio Gadez, a great friend of Cuba, seems to contemplate it with satisfaction. When you come to Havana, stop by this place where you can discover many historical facts about the genesis of this city, and also enjoy the charm of its light and its people.
