Balihar Rajbari, also known as Balihar Palace, is a historical palace located in the Naogaon district of Bangladesh. The palace was built in the 19th century during the British colonial period in India and is a beautiful example of traditional Bengali architecture.
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Balihar Rajbari. This palace is a stunning example of traditional Bengali architecture and is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history and culture.
The local zamindar, or landowner, Raja Rajendra Lal Roy, built the palace. The palace was the center of power for the zamindar family and served as a hub for social and cultural activities for the local community.
The castle was also used as a venue for meetings, events, and a place of residence for the zamindar and his family.
During the British colonial period, the palace was used as a center for administration and governance. British officials would often visit the palace to hold meetings with the local zamindar and other influential figures. This place also served as a center for education and culture, and it was a popular destination for British officials and other European visitors.
After the end of the British colonial period, the palace fell into disrepair and was abandoned. However, in recent years, efforts have been made to restore and preserve buildings. Today, the palace is open to the public and is a popular destination for tourists and history buffs.

As I approached the palace, I was immediately struck by the grand entrance that led to a large open courtyard. The red brick palace is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, showcasing the skill of the artisans who created them.
One of the highlights of my visit was the Durbar Hall, which was used for holding important meetings and events. The hall was adorned with beautiful frescoes depicting scenes from Bengali folklore and history. These frescoes are considered some of the finest examples of their kind in Bangladesh, and it was a treat to see them in person.
In addition to the palace, there are several other buildings on the palace grounds, including a guesthouse and smaller temples. These buildings were also built in the traditional Bengali architectural style and are adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures. However, some of the rooms are almost destroyed due to a lack of maintenance! That's sad that we aren't careful to preserve our past well.

I took a stroll through the palace gardens, a beautiful example of conventional Bengali garden design. The greenery and peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect spot to relax and admire the palace's beauty.
The palace also has a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna. The temple is a beautiful example of traditional Bengali temple architecture, with intricate carvings and sculptures adorning the walls. The temple is still in use today, and it was fascinating to see the devotion of the local people visiting to offer their prayers.
Visitors can take a guided tour of the palace, taking them through the different rooms and halls and giving them a glimpse of the palace's rich history and culture. Visitors can also stroll through the palace's gardens, a beautiful example of traditional Bengali garden design.
My visit to Balihar Rajbari was an unforgettable experience. This beautiful place is considered a valuable asset for Bangladesh and an essential part of the country's cultural heritage. It is a unique blend of traditional Bengali and European architecture, reflecting the cultural influences of the time. The palace is also an important symbol of the rich history and culture of the region, and it is a testament to the skill and artistry of the local artisans who built it. I hope and believe soon, the palace will be rebuilt by preserving the old structure and design.
I highly recommend visiting this hidden gem for anyone traveling to Bangladesh.
