The Douro River, the bridge D.Infante and Ponte D.Maria Pia, this hike offered breathtaking views. It was the ideal way to start the day and immerse myself in Porto charm.
As the city wakes up under the golden glow of the sun, its historic charm seems even more captivating. This past weekend, I decided to set out early for a hike along the Douro River, a path that would take me past two of Porto most iconic bridges. The bridge D.Infante and bridge D.Maria Pia and offer breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings.

No passado fim de semana decidi sair cedo para um passeio ao longo do rio Douro, um caminho que me levaria a passar por duas das pontes mais emblemáticas do Porto. A Ponte D.Infante e a Ponte Dona Maria Pia, oferecem vistas deslumbrantes sobre a cidade e os seus arredores.
The day couldn't have been more perfect. The sun was already shining brightly as I started my walk, casting a warm glow over the cobblestone streets and the rippling waters of the Douro. The air was crisp, the streets were quiet and the promise of a sunny day made everything feel alive.

The walk was peaceful and scenic, with every step bringing me closer to the city's architectural gems. The Douro has always been the lifeblood of Porto and walking along its banks gave me a deeper appreciation for the beauty it brings to the city.

One of the highlights of the hike was reaching the iconic bridge D. Maria Pia. Designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel, this iron bridge stands as a testament to Porto rich history and its connection to the railway. Though no longer in use, the bridge is a striking sight, with its elegant arch spanning the Douro River.

Um dos pontos altos da caminhada foi chegar à icónica Ponte Dona Maria Pia. Desenhada pelo famoso Gustave Eiffel, esta ponte de ferro é um testemunho da rica história do Porto e da sua ligação à ferrovia. Embora já não esteja em uso, a ponte é uma vista impressionante, com o seu arco elegante que atravessa o rio Douro.
Standing nearby, I took a moment to admire the craftsmanship and imagine the role this bridge once played in connecting people and places. The view from this spot was incredible, with the river stretching out below and the city's terracotta rooftops adding a splash of color to the horizon.

A short walk further brought me to another of Porto remarkable bridges the bridge D.Infante. In contrast to the historic charm of the D. Maria Pia, this bridge represents modern engineering at its finest. The bridge is sleek and minimalistic, with its elegant arch blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

Walking through Porto is always a reminder of its unique character. The combination of old world charm, modern vibrancy and a deep connection to the Douro creates an atmosphere that is unlike anywhere else. The bridges, in particular, stand as symbols of the city's enduring spirit each one telling its own story of connection, innovation, and resilience.

Passear pelo Porto é sempre uma recordação do seu carácter único. As I continued my walk along the river, I came upon the Capela do Senhor do Além. Located near the riverbank, this small and modest chapel stood quietly, blending into its surroundings with an understated elegance.
The chapel proximity to the Douro made it a peaceful spot to pause and take in the view. From here, the river stretched wide and calm, reflecting the morning light as boats passed by in the distance.

Continuando a minha caminhada ao longo do rio, deparei-me com a Capela do Senhor do Além. Situada perto da margem do rio, esta pequena e modesta capela erguia-se silenciosamente, integrando-se no ambiente com uma elegância discreta.
A proximidade da capela ao Douro tornou-a num local tranquilo para fazer uma pausa e apreciar a vista. A partir daqui, o rio estendia-se largo e calmo, refletindo a luz da manhã à medida que os barcos passavam ao longe.
Morning walks have always been a favourite pastime of mine and Porto provides the perfect setting. Theres a unique joy in starting the day with a quiet stroll, especially when the weather is as beautiful as it was on this day.

The sunlit streets, the gentle breeze and the sound of the Douro flowing beside me created a sense of peace. Its moments like these that remind me of the simple pleasures in life, fresh air, beautiful scenery and the chance to explore at my own pace.

The sun-rays on the ripples of the river look so mesmerizing. Almost like a moving picture, where the gaze just flows over those light ripples. The elegant arch spanning the Douro River has quite a view. One of my favorite photographs from this post.
