An outstanding day in Luxembourg with my sister...

in Worldmappin5 months ago

I hadn't planned to visit Luxembourg again so soon after my trip at the end of 2023, but my sister, visiting from another country, insisted on joining her. My previous visit was cut short by a migraine, preventing me from fully exploring. So, I decided to take advantage of this opportunity for a day trip with her. Despite having already seen the places she chose, I figured I could enjoy a leisurely walk and appreciate the stunning fortified architecture and castles. It seemed like a perfect way to relax and make up for the experiences I missed on my last visit.

We started our trip early in the morning to avoid traffic and reach our destination promptly. Despite our early start, we encountered heavy traffic, particularly in Belgium, as we were traveling from the Netherlands to Luxembourg, a journey of approximately four hours. The delay extended our travel time to five hours. However, the journey was far from dull, as my sister and I were thrilled to be spending time together after a long separation. Our excitement and happiness made the time fly by.

Upon reaching Luxembourg, our first stop was Vianden Castle. Having visited the castle before, I opted not to go inside. Instead, I encouraged my sister to explore it while I wandered around the surrounding neighborhood. I enjoyed the chance to take in the local sights and soak up the atmosphere. To my surprise, my sister reappeared after just 45 minutes, which made me curious about what she had seen inside the castle. 🤣

With our curiosity arose, we decided to sit outside the castle's territory and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view. The castle, perched majestically on a hill, provided a stunning backdrop against the serene landscape. We sat there, marveling at the castle's beauty and the picturesque surroundings. This peaceful moment allowed us to relax and appreciate the historical and architectural splendor of Vianden Castle. It was a perfect start to our day in Luxembourg, blending both exploration and relaxation.

This post is not about Vianden Castle so I am going to keep that picture for the later post.

During our five-hour journey, we took a break to stretch our legs and grab a snack. Suddenly I discovered a picturesque scene in a small town in Germany called Daxweiler. The view featured charming windmills and a quaint church, which I tried to capture. The sight of windmills alongside a charming church, green field, and blue sky had created a picture-perfect moment from far away.

Anyway, back to Luxembourg. After visiting the castle, we directly went to the city. We wanted to keep our trip very simple and relaxing so we didn't plan to visit any specific locations or spots. We just wanted to walk around the city and enjoy our time together.

Our car was parked in front of Église Saint-Michel Catholic Church. From there, the old city center of Luxembourg and the Casemates were conveniently close. In fact, the Casemates were just a five-minute walk away. We decided to head there first, exploring various viewpoints along the way.

Luxembourg offers several unique viewpoints where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of Grund and the Alzette River. Grund is a charming quarter in central Luxembourg City, nestled in the valley below the city's center, along the banks of the Alzette River. This picturesque location provides a stunning contrast to the bustling city above.

In the photos I took, you can see the serene beauty of Grund and the winding Alzette River. The spot where I captured these images is called Lacăte, a popular tourist attraction known for its breathtaking views. From Lacăte, we were able to fully appreciate the quaint charm and natural beauty of this historic quarter and understood why this spot made a must-visit location for anyone exploring Luxembourg City.

We wanted to see Grund but we didn't have enough time to do that...

Later we went to the Bock Casemates known as Casemates du Bock viewpoint but we didn't go inside. It is basically a shelter of WW2 where tunnels from the 18th century are located. Tourists can go inside and explore the shelters and tunnels. We stood at Point de Vue and enjoyed the view of Pont du Stierchen (bridge), monuments of Grund's, and churches.

Later, we began our walk towards Ville Haute, aiming to reach the old city center. My sister and I chose to follow Rue du Nord, a street lined with numerous cafes and restaurants. As we strolled along, we took our time, casually exploring the narrow streets. The beautiful atmosphere and charming establishments provided a perfect backdrop for our leisurely walk, allowing us to fully engage ourselves in the vibrant local culture. We both got a great opportunity to talk, take photos, and laugh together.

We ended our tour at William Square, where the statue of Grand Duke William II stands prominently. The square is surrounded by numerous restaurants and cafes, making it a vibrant spot for dining and relaxation. After enjoying a delicious lunch, we sat there to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of William Square. The statue of Grand Duke William II, also known as Statuette de Michel Rodange, caught our attention. While there was information posted near the statue, I must admit I didn't take the time to read it. Instead, we simply enjoyed the lively ambiance of this part of Luxembourg city.

It was really nice spending time with my sister somewhere unknown yet beautiful. I never even imagined in life that I would be able to see my sister again and will be able to spend time with her. It was actually a precious moment in my life, two sisters alone moment.

What a beautiful place!

Yes, it's a beautiful city with enriched and untold history waiting to be discovered...

Thank you so much for stopping by...

It's so good to read that you reconnected with your sister. Great memories. 💝

Yes good time and lovely memories. 6 years was a really long time and seeing her in person, I felt supported and admired...

Never been to Luxembourg even though seems like one of those places where you can find lots of things to do for a single day. But I love how you've spent some time out there with your sister, the castle definitely caught my attention the most! :)

Yes, I didn't see much but there are a few museums, castles, and churches to visit and explore; and some unique locations as well. It's not crowded especially on weekdays so you can have a relaxing time there.

Thank you and yes, it was basically a sisters' moment together and we enjoyed our time. That's why we didn't focus on exploration or visit something specific.

Also, you will find some good restaurants in the old city center but I would suggest you to visit Grund if you plan to go to Luxembourg. The area is really attractive filled with historical and cultural information.

Thanks, dear for taking the time to read my post, have a nice day...

Thank you so much! Will keep in mind. I have a sister which I am really missing and we never really went to a trip together but your post might be our next inspiration :)

Thank you again! Have a love day! <3

You definitely had such a lovely day reconnecting with your sister in Luxembourg. Checking the Vianden Castle and the old city center must have been really cool. Moments like these are truly priceless. Thanks for sharing em

You definitely had such a lovely day reconnecting with your sister in Luxembourg.

Yes, and the important fact was I met her after 6 years in person and was able to have quality time with her. We had so many topics to talk about and Luxembourg was a good location to do it while exploring the beautiful country. Vianden Castle is amazing and I have to write about it soon since a lot of people want to know about it.

I had a lovely moment with my sister somewhere unknown and beautiful... Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my post, really appreciate it...

, which made me curious about what she had seen inside the castle.

I'm curious too.😁😁

Yeah, you have a nice bond with your sister. It's a precious gift.😊

I am sure she just took photos and came back. She didn't explore the inside of the castle 😂

you have a nice bond with your sister

Yea, we are so close to each other...

Hahaha, she got bored after.😂

It's good to hear that you're close.😊

She is not into history tbh, but she loves actually famous historical spots and crowded locations. We are completely opposite from each other when it comes to seeing places...

Oh.. you really are close because you understand each other.😊

Yea, we do...

Hope for a long last sisterhood. 😊😊

she got bored after

Indeed 🤣

Hahaha, I can relate to that. Not into history. 😁

As always, you share with us a very beautiful collection of photographs, they are like postcards of the place, it is all very pleasant to see.
It's great that you enjoyed a happy moment. Those moments become a priceless treasure.

Take care and lots of encouragement.

Thank you so much for always appreciating my photos but to be honest, I don't do anything special, I randomly take photos often. The scenery was nice and I am lucky because I have seen both autumn and summer weather in Luxembourg and was able to experience the changes fully.

It's great that you enjoyed a happy moment. Those moments become a priceless treasure.

For sure and I completely agree with you...

Thank you for always encouraging me...

Due to certain circumstances I cannot travel, so I have, as a consolation, collecting photos and postcards from all over the world, I have done it for years.
And you have a very good eye for taking good shots of the landscape, that's the truth.

Ah I see but it's not so disappointing because now thanks to the digital world, you can visit anywhere virtually. I also love collecting postcards but currently, I am collecting keychains and magnets. I will start collecting postcards soon...
