Hey travellers :)
I came across the idea to share with you some impressions that I had at the Lake Skadar, Lake Scutari or Shkodra Lake (There are many words for this)
The story begins at the house of my family (They are living in Montenegro now). They had been there before and wanted to go their again, so they knew about the beautiful scenery and nature on the spot. I joined in to their plans and after a 3 hour ride by car we reached the entrance to the National Park.
The locals established pathways for travelling and they are called "Panoramic roads". Here is one famous spot where we stopped to take a little break before we went on. You have to be highly careful when you drive these roads, because they have a sharp "S" form. Therefore the hillslope or another car can be just around the curve.
However the effort is absolutely worth it and you will get rewarded with views like this....
One of the most well-known places of the Scutari Lake.
Probably a very convenient scenery for filming a high-class fantasy story don't you think? ๐
Well, atleast I won't be surprised at all, when this would happen.
As we continued driving we encountered many birds of prey and some waterfowl, mostly ducks. Unfortunately we didn't meet any flamingos, although we have been told a few weeks earlier that these animals are also living there. What we learned from the locals later, is that the density of birds is going up and down depending on the current season.
After some time we made it to the water on the bottom. This is the way how the nature looks down there.
The same arm from the previous picture now on the bottom.
The most stunning thing for me was that these plants are growing directly straight out of the water. The act to just be there for a little moment and watching the wind waving through the treetops was really satisfying. By the way, there was just the sound of the trees and the birds. Nothing else! A highly peacefull easy feeling, I would say.
I have no clue how these plants are called, so I just named them "Float-trees." ๐
As we continued our journey, we drove through small lovely villages, with beautiful tiny houses natural wine-growing and honey-making districts. We saw places where people are selling there self-made stuff directly from their house to visitors.
After we passed the first villages we came to a little good-looking restaurant, which seemed to appear out of nowhere infront of our eyes after a sharp curve. The restaurant was close to the spot where this big arm flowed into the bigger part of the Skadar lake.
View from the restaurant; Albania is on the other side of the lake.
As you could imagine the coffee that I drank here was pobably one of the best in my life, because of that sight and the good-sounding reggae music that was playing from the kitchen of the restaurant. I am convinced that the albanian part of the Lake looks a bit different. When I will visit Albania I am going to be at this lake for sure again to experience the other side.
As we finished our Coffee we we're almost through it. In the end of our trip we drove again through beautiful small lovely villages. All settlements that we encountered had a strong self-sufficient and independent character. Beside wine we saw tiny fields with all different kinds of vegetables and fruits, like tomatoes, olives, figs, cucumber, pepper and many more!
I am pretty sure that we just experienced a part of the National Park, because there were a few "Panoramic roads" that we didn't follow.
That's it for now. If you want more information about Lake Skadar, I'll leave a link in the sources below...
