In 1919 it was inaugurated as a theater and in 1926 it became the El Nacional Odeón record company, where some tango classics were recorded.

En 1919 se inauguró como teatro y en 1926 pasó a ser la discográfica El Nacional Odeón, sede en la que se grabaron algunos clásicos del tango.

Between 1964 and 1973 it was again a theater. And it had its stage as an emblematic cinema in Buenos Aires until the doors were closed, in 2000, after different cycles of economic crisis.

Entre 1964 y 1973 volvió a ser un teatro. Y tuvo su etapa como cine emblemático de Buenos Aires hasta que las puertas se cerraron, en 2000, tras diferentes ciclos de crisis económica.

Soon after, the El Ateneo took over the building and transformed it into the largest bookstore in Latin America with 500,000 titles - including books, CDs and DVDs - spread over 2,000 square meters.

Al poco tiempo, la cadena El Ateneo se quedó con el edificio y lo transformó en la librería más grande de América Latina con 500.000 títulos -entre libros, CDs y DVDs- repartidos en 2000 metros cuadrados.
