Day TripsTo Tangalooma

Living in Brisbane we have access to many nice places for boating, fishing and 4wding. But not far from the CBD, Sheltered by Moreton Island to the North and Stradbroke on the south, you’ll find Moreton Bay.

Whether it be a barge ride with your 4wd, a short trip on a water taxi or your own water craft you can be at the picturesque Tangalooma in less than one hour.

Being so accessible it can be a bit of a car park at one of the artificial reefs, Harry Atkins Reef, but the views never cease to amaze if you get out early enough.
This reef produces some good fishing year round and is home to a host of marine life. In particular dolphins, dugong and whales.

That is a lone dolphin I’ve nicknamed “Harry”. It was originally because of his half fin but it’s also the name of the reef he inhabits.

If you go in between June and November you’re in humpback migration season. These gentle giants get really close and often come inside the bay with their new calves and put on a show. We’ve been blessed with some really close encounters but you need to respect there space and follow the rules by law to protect yourselves and them.

If you head to Tangalooma there’s

Some shipwrecks that are always worth a snorkel or even just a swim in the crystal clear waters. No better way to cool off after a solid morning fishing. Here’s a few drone shots to give you an idea of how clean that water really is.

If you’re ever in Brisbane this is a must see. You can also go to Tangalooma Resort if you like a bit of luxury but I highly recommend a 4wd, a swag or tent and getting back to nature. There’s also a few fresh water lakes to check out if you know where to look.
Hope you enjoyed and safe travels.

Your drone shots are mint 👌 and always love seeing pics of Harry 🐬

He is definitely a little star

This is really beautiful, I've never experienced any form of water movement, whenever I see post like this it makes me lost in imagination. I know soon I will visit the park and will have have a first time experience.

I’m glad you could enjoy. I think being in or on the water is one of the best feelings.

Tangalooma is so beautiful! We are so lucky to have this piece of paradise so close to Brisbane!
