Mayfield Beach Walk

in Worldmappinyesterday

We ended up staying two days enjoying a rest at Mayfield Beach, taking advantage of the great sea views we landed. In the evening we walked up the beach at low tide.

Across the water you could see the beautiful Freycinet peninsula, home of Wineglass Bay. I had been there before and frankly wasn't keen on the summer crowds. This view was far better, puffs of cloud making the chain of mountains look like volcanos. The night before I had seen lightning spark all across that horizon line. Better than Netflix.

Using the zoom, I could see the house on the hill just round the corner. What a place to live! Tassie has some amazing properties with views. If only. Dotted a long this coast were also vineyards, pubs, wineries and small towns. To be honest I wouldn't want to live on the east coast. I liked the area around Hobart, Bruny and the west better.

On the beach hundreds of cicadas washed up. Their wings were beautiful. Cicadas sound like summer to me but you don't often see them..

Gulls were feasting on their abdomen, more nutritious than chippies at least.

We passed an old bridge, invisible from the road built above it. It was likely built by convicts. Beautiful, no? Artfully in the landscape, it continued to allow water to flow and was surprisingly absent of graffiti.

Later Jamie would go fishing and catch some lovely wrasse, which we floured and fried and ate with coleslaw. Gah, Tassie can be such an incredible place.

Sadly it would rain the next few days and a lot of the camps were crowded so I had no inclination to take photos of write about these places, though they were nice enough. I'd been here before and regretted coming back - I really wanted to be out west but we had to cope with the wind and rain for a day or two first.

Plus, we had laundry to do and I desperately needed a massage to cope with the pain, which I found in Bicheno. We were both a bit annoyed with each other and I ended up missing my daily swim as Jamie missed the turn off to the beach I thought would be nice. Now we are camped at a great beach spot near Bay of Fires but it's too rough to swim. Hopefully tomorrow.

With Love,

Nice landscape photo 🤩

What an incredible journey you've shared! 🌊✨ From breathtaking sea views to the charm of cicadas and convict-built bridges, it sounds like Mayfield Beach has given you some unforgettable moments (even if the weather and crowds had other plans at times). That wrasse dinner with coleslaw? Chef’s kiss!

I really could eat that every night for tea!

Great and relaxing place. Aside from the calming and serene ambiance of the Mayfield Beach, what really took my attention and curiosity is the photo of Cicada. Are these insects terrifyingly big? Or just a normal insect size?

They are pretty big!

Lovely place… a shame of the rain and wind. Hope it gets better.
Have a lovely evening 😊

It sounds like this is a beautiful moment in your life. It really does. Like what life is - walking the beach, fishing, being together. I'm happy you are there now, experiencing this. <3

PS: Never seen cicadas before :O gorgeous, though also a bit intimidating!

If I didn't have hip pain ... I suppose it's 75 percent heaven which isn't bad! Sorry I haven't visited you lately, barely any reception

They have a stunning sceneries in there, a perfect place to live in, with the kind of view. A peaceful surrounding where nature is just a step closer. Not to mentions, the cute and pretty creatures that stop by in there.

So beautiful place😍

You have managed to capture the beauty of this beach very well, it is truly extraordinary. Have a nice day.

Look at some very beautiful pictures my friend

cicadas

that thing looked massive

my first interactions with them were i think in armenia, but i heard them the most during summer in tbilisi, the loudest things around the trees, but yeah, never did really see them!

I've never seen them either! They sound like summer though don't they?
