The Tokyo Olympics are nearing so I decided to visit some of the spots around the city hosting Olympic events or celebratory landmarks. First up, the Olympic Rings on top of Mt. Takao.
This set of rings is located on the summit of Mt. Takao at 599m high, 2 hours outside of Shinjuku.
On a clear day you would be able to see Mt. Fuji behind the rings, but when I hiked up the other day it was cloudy, better for me, not for the view.
The rings are a few meters past the Takao summit marker. They were placed there because of the view with Mt. Fuji.
Two young men stand guard to keep the monkeys, errr, humans from hopping up on the rings for photos.
You can take selfies, just don't climb on the rings.
If you are going up Mt. Takao, my advice is to either take the road up or the cable car. There are about 6 different routes up the mountain and a few of them are quite difficult like Rt. 6 I took down the mountain from the rings. It was 2km, with a lot of stairs, but I'll save that beautiful route for another post.
Tomorrow I'll take you to the Olympic rings at the Japan National Stadium and it's surroundings.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
I feel really sorry for Japan, still remember when they took over the torch during the London Olympic closing ceremony in 2012
Ya, it's definitely a gut punch especially after 2011. Japan was so ready for the games and needed it to help heal 3/11. I think the games will be good, but not as good as they should be. Regardless I'm really looking forward to them.
Have you got any tickets to see the games? I imagine it would bw fairly easy to get tickets if there are no international visitors. I went to the London Olympics, it was absolutely awesome, great atmosphere
No I didn't. I'm not going to be here. Actually knowing how hot it is during August I'm glad I won't be here. It's really miserable walking around in the humidity.
I know the feeling. I was here for World Cup back in 02 and it was amazing.
