Given my...erm..."love" of crowds, if money and general distaste for buzz was not an issue, I would much prefer to be travelling to quieter traps like that than the super popular Instagrammable ones even if they were popular for a reason (and I would probably like to go see the popular ones as well, but if they don't really have an off-season then I would just have to keep vicariously enjoying them).
Hahaha yes, it is the same for me, Chichen Itza proved to be too hectic for me. If you ever have the chance, Guatemala and Honduras are perfect for this type of quiet, unnerved, stressless exploration, at least on this side of the world.

That does remind me that my parents were supposed to be heading over in that general direction pre-covid, I'll have to ask them if they are thinking about trying again. Currently they've restricted their travel to the country (which is fine there's plenty of cool stuff around here too XD).
