"The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it."~ Thomas S. Monson

In today's new generation, people are more dependent on gadgets and other technologies. Looking back, we could say that everything has changed, from the way people dress up to the way we live. As the saying goes, there is nothing constant in this world except change.

Looking back and learning our history help us understand how events in the past made things the way they are now. It is important to understand the past and the things that people used and lived before. Be with us as we share our wonderful visit to a 300 + years old house. Let's visit this place and enjoy the things that the prominent Filipino family had in the 17th century.

LET'S EXPLORE THE OLDEST HOUSE IN CEBU CITY

Cebu City is booming with skyscrapers all over the city. Time passes by and everything is fast changing. However, one ancestral house stood the test of time, weather, wars, and calamities. This ancestral house is located in Barangay Parian where the Heritage of Cebu is located.

YAP-SANDIEGO ANCESTRAL HOUSE

Yap-Sandiego house is a two-storey house that was built in 1675 and was owned by a Chinese-Filipino family. The house is made of coral stones and wood like mahogany, molave and kamagong which are so strong that they withstood all typhoons that hit Cebu island. Moreover, this house is filled with antique things and religious statues.

THE GARDEN
Even though this ancestral house is located in the city, when you are in the garden you will feel like you are in the province because of its diverse plants and flowers that are organized well. When we were there, we were lucky to see and hear someone playing an instrument that some Filipinos used to play before.

FIRST FLOOR
When you enter the first floor of the house, you'll see the old tables and chairs that the owner used in the past. You will see the wood carving on it. We can infer that people in the past were already good at the arts.

Aside from the chairs and tables that are more than my age, you will also see more paintings. These paintings merely show some events in the past like weddings in Spanish times.

THE SECOND FLOOR
Going to the second floor, you will step into the old wooden stairs that lead you to the 2nd floor of the house. Here you will see more of the owner's antique collections, religious images, jars, and so on.

Once you are on the second floor, on the right side you will see the old "Hugasan" which means sink. Filipino people in the past used clay jars to store water for drinking and washing the dishes.

It was a bit scary when inside the house since the place was quite dim, especially when you go to their bedroom. The bedroom windows are made of wood and the famous Capiz shells.

The picture hanging next to me were the owners of the house a long time ago. Today it has been owned by their great-grandson who is a famous choreographer in Cebu.

Wow, 1675 is a long way from now and it tells how must quality what invested in the house to be able to still stand strong till date.

Places like this are important so that the younger generations wouldn't just read about the olden days but also have a feel of the things from the past. Trust you enjoyed your tour.

I definitely agree with you. Very well said.

Yes, we really enjoyed our tour. 🌸

I love how the house was preserved over time and made it memorable for anyone who sees it. Over here anything that is a few hundred years old usually is represented by ruins and very few spots left intact...

Yes, I agree with you. Everything here is still intact and well preserved by the owner. Though it's surrounded with buildings, this house remains the same over the years.

Taga adlaw gyud ko mag agi diri sauna nga naa koy Youth Leadership Program sa RAFI. It can be scary-looking at night ay.

Scary jud siya miss labi na ug gabie. 😊

As like historical place is perfect for traveling.

Yes, it is. We will learn a lot by visiting historical places.

whoa, the house is well-preserved and the details somehow adds cultural display that shows blending of cultures. My favorite part of the house is the garden.

Thank you so much for loving it. 💕

Can you imagine how many things happened to this house? It must be full of many stories and experiences.

Yes, I was also thinking about that. If the walls can talk, it would share more interesting stories about the people and events before. Have a nice day.

What a beautiful place that must be. I would love to have a similar experience myself
