Pokhara, Nepal

in Worldmappin3 years ago
The beautiful city of Pokhara is located on the shores of Phewa Lake and is best known for its unrivalled vistas of the snow-capped Annapurna Himalayan range, which is more stunning than anything that can be captured in a photograph. Pokhara, 120 miles west of Kathmandu, is situated in a valley of considerable variation, with an altitude difference of approximately 1000 metres. Pokhara attracts many climbers, and three of the world's ten tallest peaks lie within 30 miles of the city: Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna (8,091m), and Manaslu (8,156m).

Pokhara is one of the nicest destinations to visit in Nepal, and I have many fond memories of it. Pokhara is not only a fantastic destination to visit, but it also serves as a gateway to the Himalayas, serving as the starting point for several hiking paths and expeditions in the Annapurna region.

Pokhara has grown as an adventure tourist destination, offering everything from ultralight flights to paragliding, as well as skydiving, ziplining, and bungee jumping. Pokhara is the ideal vacation destination for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. It is also a great place to spend a few quiet days after a three-week, hard climb at high altitude.

Places to Visit in Pokhara

1. The World Peace Pagoda

The Pokhara Shanti Stupa, also known as the World Peace Pagoda, is a Buddhist pagoda-style structure on Anadu Hill that overlooks Lake Phewa Tal and the Annapurna Mountains. Getting to the Pagoda from Pokhara is a great half-day excursion. It can be reached via hike, taxi, or boat trip. You can obtain meal or buy snacks and water from a couple of restaurants/coffee shops.

2. Mahendra Gufa

Mahendra Cave, named after Late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, is located near Devi's Falls in Pokhara-16, Batulechaur, Kaski district. A lengthy, gloomy tunnel with limestone deposits and a modest shrine at the end isn't stunning. On weekends, it can get quite packed.

3. Chamere Gufa

Another cave, the Bat Cave (Chameri Gufa), is within 10 minutes' walk from the Mahendra Cave. The dark, humid cave's walls and ceilings are covered in bats. It's a great site to see a lot of bats in a dark cave!

4. Sarangkot Viewpoint

The dawn over the Annapurna and Macchapuchara mountains can be seen from Sarangkot, which is perhaps the most magnificent sight from Pokhara. Try to arrive 20 minutes before sunrise; it is a 40-minute bumpy taxi ride from Pokhara.

5. Begnas Lake

Beautiful lake about 15 kilometres from Pokhara, calm spot, wonderful retreat from Pokhara, wonderful views, boat ride on the lake. From Lakeside Pokhara, Begnas Lake is a half-hour car journey.

6. Phewa Lake

The core of tourism in Pokhara is this stunning emerald lake with Lakeside on its banks. It's lovely to walk along the shoreline at sunset. Take a boat ride on the lake, where you can witness a variety of birds and paddle around the small island that houses the Tal Barahi Temple, Pokhara's most famous Hindu temple.
You can hire a boat with a boatsman or paddle around the lake in one of the beautifully painted boats available for rent at Lakeside. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to paddle around the island.

7. Devi’s Falls

Devi's Fall, also known as Patale Chhango, or underground waterfall, is a renowned tourist attraction in Pokhara. This waterfall indicates the underground disappearance of the Pardi Khola stream. During the monsoon season, the thundering sound of water splashing on the gorge's rocks can be distinctly heard.

8. International Mountain Museum

Interesting museum about Nepal's mountains, the people that live there, and the mountaineers who have climbed them. History, culture, geology, fauna and flora, as well as notable Himalayan climbs, are all on display. This museum will appeal to mountaineers and trekkers who have visited Nepal. The exhibits about well-known climbing trips were interesting, and the exhibits on the effects of pollution and global warming on these mountains were eye-opening.
