Hike to mountain Visočica, Bosnia and Herzegovina

in Worldmappin2 months ago

Hello everyone.
Last weekend with a group of friends we decided to visit mountain Visočica. Mountain Visočica is moutain range in central Bosnia and Herzegovina with lovely views. Highest peak is Džamija with height of 1974 meters.
Weather was sunny past weekend and our friend who has experience in hiking on mountains suggested that we visit Visočica. We climbed three peaks and visited bivouac near the top of the mountain.
We started with Crveni Kuk peak of height of 1733 meters and continued toward top of the mountain Visočica. After this we climbed peak Parić on 1941 meters and highest peak of this hike that is Vito with 1960 meters.
It was my first time on mountain Visočica and it was lovely. What is interesting is that there are many springs of water even on the top of the mountain.
Lets go from the start.

This was first stop of our hike. Mountain home or Planinski dom Vrela. It is on height of 1210 meters. It took us around 45 minutes with car to reach here from the city Sarajevo. We had our morning coffee here and then continued our way.

Here you can see that we are already reached the mountain and for me interesting part was the sheep. You can see them on the slope.

Bosnian traditional coffee and we are ready to go.

There were puppies in the garden running around. They grow very big. This may be Tornjak , a dog bread that leaves in these part.

And this is beginning of our hike. Our friend made us a route which we will follow and first part is peak Crveni kuk. It is not that much high but the views are beautiful.

Terrain is covered with grass so it was easy to hike.

As you continue climbing up it looks like the mountain open up itself. With each step you see more and more.

And here it is. First point reached. This peak is on height of 1733 meters. After less then 25 minutes we reached here.

It has lovely views and it is easy to climb. We spent some time here and then continued our hike to the top of the mountain Visočica.

Views from this peak are quite unique. You can see different types of mountain covers as ones are covered with forest and other just with grass and rocks.

So we continued to our next point. From here we will continue our hike to the top of the mountain Visočica.
As you can see there are a lot of people already here. So many cars parked along the road. We did same and our hike began.

Near the road there is sign where hike trail begins. Height here is 1760 meter. You can see hikes and places where you can reach from here. There is also bivouac or bivak on the top of the mountain which is not written on the sign (you can see someone added it on the upper sign).

This is starting point. There are signs on the rocks along the path.
Our plan was to first reach bivouac or bivak and from here to hike to the some peaks of mountain Visočica.

Trail here is quite different then the first one that we hiked. There are more rocks and it is harder to hike here. Yet path is easy to follow.

Starting point already so far back.

As we continue the hike there are some parts that are steeper.

And other are like this nice and easy to hike.

This is point where you can go different ways depending on your route plan.
Our was to first visit bivak on the top and then continue to the peak Vito after that. At this point it is up to which side you will go. I think our route plan was quite enjoyable.

Whit every step there is change of scenery and views are lovely.

And here as I remember we heard water running. This was big surprise for me. After this point later on we will come across more of these small springs on the mountainy. Very interesting to see water spring on the top of the mountain.

Spring is down between these two rocks in the photo.

We filled up our water bottles and continued the hike.
Water is good and cold.

We continued and we are slowly approaching our destination.
We stopped couple times already for short brakes. While resting you enjoy the mountain.

More springs. At this point I think we were on more than 1850 meters in altitude.
Even near top of the moutain Visočica there is water.

We are approaching our destination. It was final couple hundreds meters.

Almost there. Lovely lake on the top of the mountain.
As I read there are more of these beautiful lakes during the spring time.

And we are here.
We reached our first point.
To my surprise it was very crowded. Many people decided to use lovely Sunday to hike the mountain. Same as we. Very good decision.
It took us almost two hours to get here. Hike was nice and easy. We did not rush and we took several short brakes on our way up.

This is plateau where bivouac is located. It is surrounded by couple of peaks and views are breathtaking.

Bivouac on the edge and you can stay here during night.

Inside is very nice.

We rested and ate near the bivouac. Gathered our energy and after 45 minutes continued to the next point.
Bivouac looks so small from here.

Second point was not far away and after short time we reached it. This peak called Parić. Its heigh is 1941 meters. You can see many other mountains from here.

And we had to be a bit fast because we did not want to lose sunlight.
There was one more peak to reach. We headed to Vito peak.
And this part of the hike was a bit more dangerous one than other part.
The trail for the last part of the hike is over the ridge.

On the left is ridge we fallowed and you can see the far in the back peak Vito.

On one side you are very careful where you step on since it is steep on the ridge but on the other side surrounding sights are beautiful.

And we are at our last point.
Peak Vito.

Its height is 1960 meters. It is not highest peak of mountain Visočica but it is very close. That woudl be Džamija peak with height of 1974 meters. Next time we should hike to this peak as well.

Again beautiful scenery from the top of the peak Vito.

Now we are headed back.
Hike is quite easier when you hike downhill.

Just near the peak there was another water spring. Someone put pipes and water is flowing strong. We rested a bit, refreshed ourselves and continued our way back.

It took as around 1 hours to reach our starting point. This hike to mountain Visočica was much more then I expected. It was my first time here and I was blown away. Beautiful mountain. It is a just a bit demanding on some parts but in my opinion very hike friendly. We had lovely time and I have nothing against one more visit.
If you are into hiking on mountains and you appear to be in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo put hike to mountain Visočica on your map.
It is worth visting.
