Hello everyone! Today I bring you a new adventure. For a long time I have wanted to travel outside the capital and meet new beaches, so, this time I had the opportunity to camp in one of the most appreciated by tourists. I did this trip about a month ago. And I'm talking about the Yapascua cove.
I will tell you about the route we did, the points of interest in this cove and my experience as a backpacker for this occasion. I hope you enjoy!
¡Hola a todos! Hoy les traigo una nueva aventura. Desde hace muchísimo tiempo he querido viajar fuera de la capital y conocer nuevas playas, en esta ocasión tuve la oportunidad de acampar en una de las más apreciadas por los turistas. Este viaje lo hice hace un mes aproximadamente. Y estoy hablando de nada más y nada menos que la Ensenada de Yapascua.
Les contaré el recorrido que hicimos, los puntos de interés de esta ensenada y mi experiencia como mochilera para esta ocasión. ¡Espero que lo disfruten!
We took the bus in Caracas at 7.30am, it took us to Puerto Cabello, the road is very long and to be the first time that I go to that state I will limit myself to saying that you know that you will arrive at the first stop when the bus go up to the mountains where you can see beautiful views of the beaches. This is how we arrived at our first stop, the Bay of Patanemo at 12.30pm.
Tomamos el bus en Caracas a las 7.30am, este nos llevó hacía Puerto cabello, el camino es muy largo y para ser la primera vez que voy a ese estado me limito a decir que sabes que vas a llegando a la primera parada cuando el bus sube por unas montañas dónde se puede apreciar hermosas vistas de las playas. Es así como llegamos a nuestra primera parada la Bahía de patanemo a las 12.30pm.

There are two ways to get to Yapascua: boat trip and trekking. Those who wanted to travel by boat paid $ 5, while those who wanted to trek only had to cross a small river, go around the Patanemo beach and begin to ascend.

Hay dos maneras de llegar a Yapascua: viaje por lancha y trekking. Los que querían viajar por lancha pagaban 5$, mientras que los que quisieran hacer trekking solo tenían que cruzar un pequeño río, rodear la playa de patanemo y comenzar ascender.
For my part, I went trekking, I couldn't miss the opportunity to tour a mountain, so we lowered our belongings to put them on a boat and began to walk.
Por mi parte hice trekking, no podía perderme la oportunidad de recorrer una montaña, así que bajamos nuestras pertenencias para subirlas a una lancha y comenzamos a caminar.

The path was not extreme but it was still not easy at all. We are talking that we started to rise at noon, therefore the sun was burning! There was no time to rest because if you stopped the mosquitoes would fly towards you and believe me, the sun and the mosquitoes together is not the best combination. This is why for this trip (and any that is made for the beach) it is important to bring repellent, but since I had not carried it for that occasion, I fought with them with a piece of branch.
El camino no era extremo pero aún así no fue nada fácil. Estamos hablando que comenzamos a subir al mediodía, por lo tanto el sol estaba ardiendo! No había tiempo de descansar ya que si te parabas los mosquitos volaban hacia a tí y créanme, el sol y los mosquitos juntos no es la mejor combinación. Es por esto que para este viaje (y cualquiera que se haga para la playa) es importante llevar repelente, pero como yo no había llevado para esa ocasión, combatía con ellos con un pedazo de rama.
We were a group of approximately 15-20 people. Some came up with shirts, sweaters or tops (I did it with a top instead of the normal bathing suit) therefore I was totally marked. People who wore sweaters had to take them off on the way but those who wore short sleeves suffered the most from tanning, the sun was so strong, I even thought my shoes would melt!
Éramos un grupo de 15-20 personas aproximadamente. Algunos subieron con camisas, suéteres o con tops (yo lo hice con un top en vez del traje baño normal) por lo tanto quedé marcada totalmente. Las personas que llevaban suéteres tuvieron que quitárselo en el camino pero quienes llevaban manga corta fueron los que más sufrieron con el bronceado, el sol era tan fuerte, hasta pensé que los zapatos se me derretirían!
After climbing and climbing we begin to descend. Easier since you just had to start to speed up to leave the mosquitoes behind.
Después de subir y subir comenzamos a descender. Más fácil ya que sólo había que comenzar a acelerar el paso para dejar a los mosquitos atrás.
And that's how we found out that we were already close to Yapascua.
Y así fue como nos enteramos que ya estábamos cerca de Yapascua.
We descended, the first thing we get is the Yapascua lagoon. Such a beautiful, warm and peaceful place that it caused camping and having this beautiful view in the morning. However, it is not a suitable area to pitch tents so we only went through.
Descendimos, lo primero que conseguimos es la laguna de Yapascua. Un lugar tan hermoso, cálido y tranquilo que provocaba acampar y tener está hermosa vista por la mañana. Sin embargo, no es zona adecuada para montar carpas así que solo fuimos de paso.

From the lagoon we walked about 500 meters to the left, we crossed in a small forest where there were lots of wasps, we had to be careful with them and with the branches that had spikes. It was very important not to touch them as they scratched you a lot. Until we finally meet Yapascua!
Desde la laguna caminamos unos 500mts a la izquierda, cruzamos en un pequeño bosque donde había montones de avispas, teníamos que tener cuidado con ellas y con las ramas que tenían púas. Era muy importante no rozarlas ya que te arañaban mucho. Hasta que por fin nos encontramos con Yapascua!
We looked for a place to camp, there were already people on the beach. There were a lot of hiking groups so we tried to settle as close as possible as some had lamps and some didn't. Already having the site I began to set up the tent.
Buscamos un sitio donde acampar, en la playa ya había gente. Habían muchos grupos de excursionismo, así que tratamos de instalarnos lo más cerca posible ya que algunos tenían lámparas y otros no. Ya teniendo el sitio comencé a armar la carpa.
After having the tent ready, I did not wait any longer, and I went into the sea.
Luego de tener la carpa lista no esperé más, y me metí al mar.
Something very particular about this beach is that the water is very warm (of course, how could it not be if the sun was burning!). It does not have strong waves and it is not that wave, it is a calm and relaxing beach. Perfect for all audiences.
Algo muy particular de esta playa es que el agua es muy tibia (por supuesto, cómo no lo va a ser si el sol estaba ardiendo!). No tiene olas fuertes y no es tan onda, es una playa tranquila y relajante. Perfecta para todo público.
By the curiosity and also because of how magnificent the beach looks, we went to the viewpoint where the photographs are taken and you have a spectacular view. We only had to cross the beach from where we were to climb there.
Por curiosidad y también por lo magnífica que se ve la playa, fuimos al mirador donde se toman las fotografías y tienes una vista espectacular. Solo teníamos que cruzar la playa de dónde estábamos para escalar hasta allá.

To climb, it is advisable to go in shoes or cholas. Since the stones can be sharp and become uncomfortable. We did not wear it since we had not really thought about it, but it was necessary.
With great care we went up little by little, it was scary and the feet hurt a lot but our goal was to see the beach from that point and it was worth it.

Para subir, es recomendable ir en zapatos o cholas. Ya que las piedras pueden estar filosas y llegan a ser incómodas. Nosotras no llevamos ya que la verdad no lo habíamos pensado, pero sí que hizo falta.
Con mucho cuidado subimos poco a poco, daba miedo y lastimaban muchos los piecitos pero nuestro objetivo era ver la playa desde ese punto y sí que valió la pena.

During our stay I enjoyed the warm sun and the sea, to be honest it had been a long time since I went to the beach and having had the opportunity to travel to Yapascua I was very happy. Meeting new people, sitting on the seashore, talking and telling jokes with your friends is an experience you've never had. What I looked forward to the most on this entire trip was to be able to see the sunset and sunrise on the beach.
Durante nuestra estadía disfruté del cálido sol y del mar, para ser sincera había pasado muchísimo tiempo desde que fui a la playa y al haber tenido la oportunidad de viajar hasta Yapascua estaba muy contenta. Conocer nuevas personas, sentarse en la orilla del mar, hablar y contar chistes con tus amigos es una experiencia que nunca había tenido. Lo que más esperaba en todo este viaje era poder ver el atardecer y el amanecer en la playa.
However, 3pm passed and the beach turned dark, the gray clouds settled on our side and the water did not wait. That did not stop us from getting out of the water, but the hours passed and we could never see the sunset because of the gray clouds...
Sin embargo pasaron las 3pm y la playa se tornaba oscura, las nubes grises se posaron de nuestro lado y el agua no se hizo esperar. Eso no impidió que saliéramos del agua, pero las horas pasaron y el atardecer nunca lo pudimos ver por las nubes grises...
At the time this photo was taken, it was already 6.40pm, that meant that there was no longer a chance to see the sunset.
En el momento que se tomó esta foto ya eran las 6.40pm, eso quería decir que ya no había chance de ver el atardecer.
A very important fact that I had not mentioned previously:
Yapascua does not offer any service, therefore we had to carry everything on our own: drinks, food and the most essential ice. But since we do not have this information very clear and because it is the first time that I embark on a trip practically from one day to the next, we do not take our precautions. That means that we drink water, soda and even sangria hot in most cases.
But this is where I have my trick and it is nothing to write home about, but I share it in case anyone does not think about it, hehe. When you have a hot drink and you don't have ice, you can always take the option of going into the sea with the bottle and leaving it inside for a while. He served me with juice, water, soda and in the evening for sangria.
The waters of Yapascua are warm, therefore I had to go further to the bottom of the beach to get the temperature I wanted. I can say that in this way I was able to enjoy my Caroraña drinks without any problems.
Hey! The bottle obviously has to be sealed. Do not enter with the containers open to the beach because, to be honest, it does not make sense. Take your bottle and submerge it in the sea to cool it down.
So please, do not drink into the sea and when you finish put your garbage in your bag or a plastic bag so that when you leave the beach, you can take it with you. Thanks.
Un dato muy importante que no había mencionado anteriormente:
Yapascua no ofrece ningún servicio, por lo tanto todo teníamos que llevarlo por nuestra cuenta: bebidas, comida y lo más esencial el hielo. Pero al no tener esta información bien clara y por ser la primera vez que me lanzo a un viaje prácticamente de un día para otro, no tomamos nuestras precauciones. Eso quiere decir que el agua, el refresco y hasta la sangría la tomamos caliente en el mayor de los casos.
Pero aquí es donde tengo mi truco y que no es nada del otro mundo pero lo comparto por si alguno no lo llega a pensar, jeje. Cuando tengas una bebida caliente y no tienes hielo siempre puedes tomar la opción de entrar al mar con la botella y dejarlo por un rato dentro. Me sirvió con el jugo, el agua, el refresco y en la noche para la sangría.
Las aguas de Yapascua son tibias, por lo tanto tuve que adentrarme más al fondo de la playa para conseguir la temperatura que quería. Puedo decir que de esta manera pude disfrutar mis tragos de caroreña sin ningún problemas.
Ojo! La botella tiene que estar, obviamente, sellada. No ingreses con los envases abiertos a la playa porque, para ser honestos, no tiene sentido. Toma tu botella y sumergela en el mar para que se enfríe.
Por favor, no tomes dentro del mar y al terminar mete tu basura en el bolso o en una bolsa de plástico para que cuando dejes la playa, te la puedas llevar. Gracias.
During the night we saw three shooting stars, unfortunately I was having such a good time that I did not take photos of my stay on the beach at night. It wasn't until 11pm that I had already fallen asleep and I decided to go into the tent to sleep.
Durante la noche vimos tres estrellas fugaces, lastimosamente la estaba pasando tan bien que no tomé fotos de mi estadía en la playa de noche. No fue hasta las 11pm que ya me había entrado el sueño y, decidí entrar a la carpa para dormir.
I got up several times in the morning, I listened to the sea, the small waves, those very particular sounds of the sea. And I felt so blessed to live that experience, knowing that I was not alone, that I had at least 20 neighbors close by and that since I slept in their tents, it gave me a feeling of complicity, but a good one.
Me levanté varias veces en la madrugada, escuchaba el mar, las pequeñas olas, esos sonidos tan particulares del mar. Y me sentí tan bendecida de vivir esa experiencia, saber que no estaba sola, que tenía al menos 20 vecinos cerca y que como yo dormían en sus carpas me dió un sentimiento de complicidad pero del bueno.
At one point I fell asleep again when my friend woke me up at 5.40am. We left the tent and there were already people outside waiting for the sunrise.
En un momento me quedé dormida otra vez cuando mi amiga me levantó a las 5.40am. Salimos de la carpa y ya había gente afuera esperando el amanecer.
We decided to go to the viewpoint where we took the photo the day before to see the sunrise. But it was still very dark so we decided to wait.
Decidimos ir al mirador dónde nos tomamos la foto el día anterior para ver el amanecer. Pero todavía estaba muy oscuro así que decidimos esperar.
At this point of clarity we decided to ascend to the viewpoint. / En este punto de claridad decidimos ascender hasta el mirador.
Something very crazy happened to me when I went up to the viewpoint, during my ascent a few cm of feet a coral passed. The shock was so great that all I thought about was jumping but instead of doing it backwards I did it forward leaving me basically cornered with the little snake. I was stagnant for about 5 minutes scared, of course the snake passed and continued but my fear was that the moment I returned it would come out again. Nothing happened, I came back and it was just a traumatic experience. The mistake was mine too, not having climbed in shoes or cholas. So, if you do, please don't do it barefoot and if you see a snake don't hurt it !! Just let her go on her way.
Algo muy loco me pasó al subir hasta el mirador, durante mi ascenso a unos cm de pies pasó una coral. El susto fue tan grande que lo único que pensé fue en saltar pero en vez de hacerlo hacia atrás lo hice hacía adelante dejándome básicamente acorralada con la pequeña serpiente. Estuve estancada como 5 minutos asustada, por supuesto la serpiente pasó y siguió de largo pero mi temor era que en el momento de yo regresar saliera nuevamente. No pasó nada, regresé y fue sola una experiencia traumática. El error fue mío también, al no haber subido en zapatos o en cholas. Así que, si lo llegan a hacer por favor, no lo hagan descalzos y si ven a una serpiente no le hagan daño!! Solo déjenla que ella seguirá su camino.
After going up and seeing that more people were arriving to the viewpoint, we decided to descend to wait for the sunrise on the shore and that is how it arrived.
Después de subir y ver que iba llegando más personas hasta el mirador decidimos descender para esperar el amanecer en la orilla y fue así como llegó.

Clearly this was the best part of this whole trip, my first sunrise on the beach! I did not expect more, remembering that moment makes you want to return as soon as possible to live this experience again.
Claramente esta fue la mejor parte de todo este viaje, mi primer amanecer en la playa! No esperaba más, recordar ese momento hace que desee volver lo más pronto posible para vivir está experiencia nuevamente.
Our stay ended at approximately 9.30am, because we had to trek again to return to Patanemo Bay, and then take the bus and be returning to Caracas at around 4 or 5pm.
Nuestra estadía finalizó aproximadamente a las 9.30am, debido a que nos tocaba hacer trekking nuevamente para regresarnos hasta bahía de patanemo, para luego tomar el bus y estar regresando a Caracas a eso de las 4 o 5pm.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If you are from Venezuela and you plan to go to Yapascua, or if you are outside the country and you are interested in doing tourism in this paradisiacal beach, I recommend the following:
Bring comfortable shoes and cholas: If you are going to trek the main thing is to wear sports shoes, if you want to go up to the viewpoint you will need them to climb the steep.
Repellent: Whether you are trekking or to be on the beach, the repellent will help you spend the trip more comfortable, the mosquitoes that may be on that beach look like Terminators.
Ice: Take even a small cellar where you can move your ice and / or drinks, unless you want to take a risk and apply the little trick I did.
Big black bag: This will serve you two things, the first in case of rain, you can put it in the upper part of the tent to prevent water from entering it. And the second most obvious, for the garbage. Take your waste, do not leave any wrappers, bottles, caps among other things that can damage our ecosystem. Do not be dirty.
Go with a good group of friends and enjoy the sea. Do not settle for what you read or see on the internet, learn and know the good things that Yapascua can offer you. You're going to love it.
RECOMENDACIONES
Si eres de Venezuela y tienes pensado ir a Yapascua, o si estás fuera del país y te interesa hacer turismo en esta playa paradisíaca te recomiendo lo siguiente:
- Lleva zapatos cómodos y cholas: Si vas a hacer trekking lo primordial es llevar zapatos deportivos, si quieres subir al mirador las necesitarás para subir lo empinado.
- Repelente: Tanto si haces trekking como para estar en la playa, el repelente te ayudará a pasar el viaje más cómodo, los mosquitos que pueden haber en esa playa parecen Terminators.
- Hielo: Lleva aunque sea una pequeña cava dónde puedas desplazar tu hielo y/o bebidas, a menos que quieras arriesgarte y aplicar el pequeño truco que hice.
- Bolsa negra grande: Esta te servirá para dos cosas, la primera en caso de lluvia, la puedes poner en la parte alta de la carpa para evitar que el agua entre en ella. Y la segunda más obvia, para la basura. Llévate tus desechos, no dejes nada de envolturas, botellas, tapas entre otras cosas que pueden dañar nuestro ecosistema. No seas sucio.
- Ve con un buen grupo de amigos y disfruta del mar. No te conformes con lo que lees o ves por internet, aprende y conoce las cosas buenas que te puede ofrecer Yapascua. Te va a encantar.
