I've been planning a trip to Guadeloupe in the French West Indies with my partner for over a month. Our project is now finalized, and I'd like to give you a brief outline.
We have chosen to organize the trip ourselves, with flights, car rental and accommodation chosen from Airbnb or Booking.
This required us to develop a method for planning the trip, as reading traveler forums and guidebooks made us want to see everything.
As we're leaving for two weeks, we can't of course visit everything, but we'll see a lot all the same.
The first question that came up was whether we should rent a car.
I like to use public transport when I travel, which allows me to get closer to the people and meet new people.
But here, the unanimous opinions of travelers recommend renting a car.
Finding an inexpensive rental was complicated by the fact that availability is limited over a relatively long period of two weeks, and reading the google reviews encourages a great deal of caution, but I managed to make a choice, we'll see if it's a good one, I had a person from the agency on the phone and the contact was good.
On the picture, I've represented the routes with blue arrows and the places to stay with red circles.
For the organization, we then prioritized the places to visit, which were the islands of Désirade and Saintes.
On these small islands, the accommodation offer is more limited, and we started by booking 2 nights on Désirade at the beginning of our stay, then 3 nights on Les Saintes at the end.
We scouted the departure points of the boats, which gave us the location of our first night after arriving by plane.
On our return from Désirade, we'll spend 2 nights in Morne à l'eau, to take advantage of the nearby mangrove swamps and the large marine cul de sac.
Then we'll head for Basse Terre in Bouillante, which is a pretty central spot for star tours, including the Deshaies botanical garden, the Cousteau reserve, Ilet Pigeon and mud baths. We'll be staying there for 4 nights.
Then we'll head for Trois Rivières to take the boat to the Saintes islands, where we've booked a 3-night stay.
On our return from Les Saintes, we'll head for Sainte Anne for 2 nights, where the beaches are beautiful (Club Med has a village there) and we'll be close to Pointe à Pitre, the capital, where we plan to visit the slavery museum.
We'll then return the car to the airport, which isn't far from Sainte Anne, and that'll be that.
I hope we'll have a great trip, and it'll be the first for my partner, who's never been out of Europe before. We'll be leaving at dawn on January 11.
The temperature will be around 30° Celsius, whereas in France it will be winter.

Je prépare depuis plus d'un mois un voyage en Guadeloupe dans les Antilles Françaises avec ma compagne, notre projet est finalisé et je vais vous en présenter les grands traits.
Nou savons fait le choix d'organiser nous même le voyage, avec des vols secs, une location de voiture et des hébergements choisis sur Airbnb ou Booking.
Cela a demandé de mettre au point une méthode pour planifier le séjour, car en lisant les forums de voyageurs et les guides on avait envie de tout voir.
Comme nous partons deux semaines, nous ne pouvons bien sûr pas tout visiter mais nous verrons beaucoup de choses quand même.
La première question qui s'est posée, penons nous une voiture de location ?
J'aime beaucoup utiliser les transports en communs quand je voyage, ce qui me permet d'être plus proche de la population et de faire des rencontres.
Mais là, les avis unanimes de voyageurs conseillent de louer une voiture.
Trouver une location pas trop chère a été compliqué car les disponibilité sont limitées sur une période relativement longue de deux semaines, et la lecture des avis google incite à beaucoup de prudence, mais j'ai réussi à faire un choix, nous verrons si il est bon, j'ai eu une personne de l'agence au téléphone et le contact était bon.
J'ai représenté sur l'image les trajets avec de flèches bleues et les lieux de séjour avec des ronds rouges.
Pour l'organisation, nous avons ensuite établi des priorité de lieux à visiter, qui étaient l'Ile de la Désirade et l'Ile des Saintes.
Sur ces petites iles, l'offre d'hébergement est plus réduite, et nous avons commencé par réserver 2 nuits à la Désirade en début de séjour, puis 3 nuits aux Saintes en fin de séjour.
Nous avons repéré les lieux de départ des bateaux, ce qui nous a donné l'endroit de notre première nuit après l'arrivé en avion.
Au retour de la Désirade nous irons 2 nuits à Morne à l'eau afin de profiter de la mangrove qui est toute proche et du grand cul de sac marin.
Ensuite nous irons sur Basse Terre à Bouillante, qui est un endroit assez central pour visiter en étoile, avec entre autres le jardin botanique de Deshaies, la réserve Cousteau, l'Ilet Pigeon et des bains de boue, nous restons 4 nuits.
Puis nous partirons vers Trois Rivières pour prendre le bateau à destination des iles des Saintes où nous avons réservé pour 3 nuits.
Au retour des Saintes, nous irons à Sainte Anne pour 2 nuits, les plages y sont très belles ( le Club Med y a un village) et nous serons proche de Pointe à Pitre la capitale à nous avons prévu de visiter le musée de l'esclavage.
Nous rendrons ensuite la voiture à l'aéroport qui n'est pas très loin de Sainte Anne et ce sera fini.
J'espère que nous ferons un beau voyage, ce sera le premier pour ma compagne qui n'est jamais sortie d'Europe, c'est pour bientôt, départ le 11 Janvier aux aurores.
Nous aurons autour des 30° Celsius alors qu'en France ce sera l'hiver.
