hello hivers. I visited a gallery during the weekend and will be sharing with you some pictures I took during this visit.
Memphis Art gallery is located in Abeokuta, Ogun state Nigeria. it is just beside the famous Olumo Rock.it houses mainly local art works.
coming into the Gallery we saw several amazing pictures, drawings, carved works and many more. each image in the gallery represented something significant.
these are musical instrument used to produce melodious sound and it stands for a joyful moment as music can be used to relax the soul.
these art work has the map of Nigeria and some of Africa with some old musical instrument on the body of the map which shows some old musical instrument like the gong which was used in the ancient time in Africa to produce music and was also used by town criers to draw the attention of the people so they can pass messages to them.
on the second shelve there are wooden guitar and a wooden saxophone. and on the third layer of the shelve are wooden animals.
starting from your right the first man blowing a flute represents the ancient men in Africa who produce musical sounds from locally made flutes. the next image is a woman plaiting the hair of another lady. next6 is a woman carrying a pot in the mood of festival. the other image shows the strength of an African woman who is pregnant and is also seen pounding in a mortar. the next image represent a hunter with his hunting tools beside him are 2 animals which shows that he is in to hunt for food. and lastly we have a woman sitting down carrying a baby and also cooking this art work makes you see the strength of a woman how she multi t6ask and get things done in at same time.
this picture shows a lady who strikes a pose for a good picture. well it simply shows the beauty of a woman.

like I mentioned before the Gallery is situated beside the famous Olumo Rock. this a picture of the Olumo Rock.
the is is an image of a person with big cap and a big earring
this picture is also very expensive as it was done with threads. it is a lady wearing a native attire.
and next we have the pictures of some prominent people in Nigeria the likes of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti---- first woman in Abeokuta to drive a car in Nigeria. Ojukwu who fought for the Biafrans, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Earnest Shonekan, Fela Kuti, Olusegun Obasanjo, The Great Awolowo, King Sunny Ade, Wole Soyinka and several prominent people in the world.
A picture of the great Obafemi Awolowo
Ladoke Akintola
Nnamdi Azikiwe
like I mentioned earlier the Gallery houses mostly local works that is why in this picture you can see locally made bags made from clothes.
after going round the Gallery I also did another visit to the Olumo Rock since the ticket paid for covered both the gallery and the rock experience.
