Hi everyone! How's your day going? I hope you're all doing well. For today's blog, I want to take you along as I relive my visit to the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet. If you have heard of it, you probably know it's famous for its huge, sweet, and fresh strawberries. So I am calling out the strawberry lovers out there! Benguet is a must-visit for so many Filipinos, and for good reason. It has that cool breeze, great views, amazing food, and much more.
Unfortunately, during our visit, it wasn't strawberry season, but that didn't stop the place from being great and full of exciting things to enjoy. I still feel fortunate that I got to experience it myself.
The province of Benguet is one of the major tourist destination in the Philippines, with most of its tourist spots centred on culture and nature. Baguio City's location within the province boosts the province's tourism industry. Benguet is known for its cool weather, beautiful mountains, and fresh vegetables. It is often called as the Salad Bowl of the Philippines and is famous for its strawberries. You can even pick your own strawberries on its farms. The place is so peaceful as it has rich culture and amazing views which makes it a great place to visit.
Weather in Benguet
Benguet has dry and wet seasons. The dry season is from December to May, with cool temperatures and little rain, making it a popular time for visitors. The rainy season is similar to the rest of Luzon but has more rainfall.
Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad
Benguet is known for many good things, including its strawberries!
La Trinidad, the capital of Benguet, is known as the Strawberry Capital of the Philippines because of its large strawberry farms. It is s right next to Baguio City, making visiting the colourful fields full of strawberries very easy. The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is a must-visit for anyone going to Baguio for the first time, especially if you like strawberries. Strawberry picking is a nice experience that doesn't come around often, so it's a great opportunity to enjoy something special while you're there.
If you visit outside of the strawberry season (just like us), don't worry! The farm has plenty to offer, namely, fresh vegetables, fruits, delicious food, and so much more. There's a lot of stalls that sells fresh and sweet strawberries.
You can visit the strawberry farm throughout the harvest season, which runs from October to March, although strawberries are not accessible from April to September.
My Experience
My sister, some church mates, and I took a trip to Baguio in July 2023. Of all the places we explored, the Strawberry Farm stood out. It left a mark on my heart that I just can't forget.
When we visited, it wasn't the season for strawberries, so there weren't many available. It was a bit sad because we were looking forward to pick fresh strawberries, but we were still positive that there was still so much to enjoy in the place! The farm was filled with big, fresh vegetables that seemed so colorful and healthy. There are many food stalls around, selling various fruits, vegetables, and strawberry-themed treats like ice cream, shakes, taho( filipino sweet snack made from soft tofu), and other desserts.
We tried the strawberry ice cream which was so sweet and creamy. It was so refreshing. As we walked further, we found stalls selling handmade souvenirs like keychains, magnets, and other items. We ended up buying a lot of keychains to give to our family and friends as souvenirs. Even though there weren’t many strawberries, the overall experience was still enjoyable and memorable.
Strawberry Ice Cream
This is the perfect place to taste the most delicious and sweet strawberry ice cream. It's creamy, with the perfect balance of sweet and sour from fresh strawberries. The strawberry ice cream costs 50 pesos, which is about 0.90 USD. The burst of flavour from the strawberry ice cream in La Trinidad is something you won't forget!
Strawberry Taho
Taho is a popular Filipino snack made from soft tofu. It is usually topped with sago pearls (like tapioca pearls) and sweetened with carnival, a caramelized brown sugar syrup. This version is extra special because of its strawberry syrup and fresh strawberries on top. You can only taste this authentic strawberry taho in Baguio. Like strawberry ice cream, it costs 50 pesos.
Strawberry Jams
Another treat to try at the farm is the homemade strawberry jams. There are many stalls that sell fresh jams, so make sure to buy plenty of jars to take a taste of La Trinidad's strawberries home with you.
Why should you visit the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad?
If strawberries are your thing, then trust me, you won't want to miss this treasure. La Trinidad is renowned for good reason, it's a strawberry lover's paradise! The strawberry farms here are worth seeing. You can actually pick your own fresh, juicy berries straight from the fields. It's an experience that's as sweet as the fruit itself. Just make sure to visit on strawberries' peak season!
It's not all about the strawberries though. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, it has cool mountain air and scenic views that make you feel like you're in a picture postcard. Plus, if you're into fresh produce, La Trinidad offers a great deal of fresh veggies!
What should you bring and do there?
Make sure to bring your jacket; this place is cold compared to other places in the country. Though sometimes, if it's hot, it's not as scorching or hot to the skin. Also, since the view is mesmerizing, make sure your phone and camera are fully charged! You will enjoy taking a lot of pictures. Just enjoy the place and every moment of it.
If you want to pick fresh strawberries, visit during their season. Don't forget to try all of the strawberry-themed foods, like ice cream, taho, shakes, and jams. There are a lot of huge vegetables as well. You'll find yourself amazed at how colourful the stalls are because of the various fruits and vegetables.
