My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Trinidad. Since it was only a few days we had already made an itinerary of the places we were going to visit. For the first day in this beautiful colonial city we went on an excursion to the Valle de los Ingenios.
The valley was several centuries ago one of the largest sugar regions of the country and today is a World Heritage Site. It is a complex of more than 10 sugar mills but that day we only had the pleasure of visiting the Mirador del Valle and the haciendas: Buena Vista and Manaca-Iznaga.
The visit began at the Mirador which is located a few kilometers after leaving Trinidad. Besides contemplating the scenery, from the viewpoint we could ride the canopy which has 5 sections and is the best attraction of the place. This experience allows you to enjoy a little more the beautiful view, besides the adrenaline that you feel when crossing each cable.
The second stop was in Vista Bonita. The house is located in the center of numerous terraced gardens. It has a wide portal that allows you to enjoy the scenery of the valley.
Here we made a stop for a snack as it also has good gastronomic offers and cocktails.
Finally, we visited Manaca-Iznaga. Upon arriving at the hacienda, the guide told us that the Iznaga family was one of the wealthiest in Trinidad at the time and that they had a large sugar production.
The hacienda house is where the owners of the hacienda lived, and today we can find there: a restaurant of Creole food, sale of souvenirs and offers of Cuban drinks. In the back part there is an original trapiche of the time.
One of the main attractions of the hacienda is the watchtower, which is almost 45 meters high. At the entrance of the tower the artisans exhibited their weavings, all made by themselves.
The main function of the tower was to watch over the slaves and the surrounding area where the plantations were located in case of fire.
In front of the hacienda house there is a large bell that was located in the tower and was rung at the beginning and end of the working day of the slaves.

Mi esposo y yo pasamos nuestra luna de miel en en Trinidad. Como eran pocos días ya llevamos un itinerario hecho de los lugares a los que iríamos. Para el primer día en esta bonita y colonial ciudad fuimos a una excursión al Valle de los ingenios.
El valle fue hace varios siglos atrás una de las regiones azucareras más grandes del país y hoy en día es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Es un complejo de más de 10 ingenios pero ese día solo tuvimos la dicha de visitar el Mirador del Valle y las haciendas: Buena Vista y Manaca-Iznaga.
La visita comenzó en el Mirador que se encuentra a pocos kilómetros después de salir de Trinidad. Además de contemplar el paisaje, desde el mirador pudimos montar el canopy el cual cuenta con 5 tramos y es el mejor atractivo del lugar. Esta experiencia permite disfrutar un poco más la hermosa vista, además de la adrenalina que se siente al cruzar por cada cable.
La segunda parada fue en Vista Bonita. La vivienda se localiza en el centro de numerosos jardines escalonados. Tiene un amplio portal que permite disfrutar el paisaje del valle.
Aquí hicimos una parada para merendar ya que también cuenta con buenas ofertas gastronómicas y coctelería.
Para terminar visitamos Manaca-Iznaga. Al llegar a la hacienda la guía nos contó que la familia Iznaga era de las más adineradas en Trinidad de la época y que tenían una gran producción de azúcar.
La casa hacienda, es donde vivían los propietarios de la hacienda, y hoy podemos encontrar ahí:un restaurante de comida criolla, venta de suvenires y ofertas de bebidas cubanas. En la parte trasera hay un trapiche original de la época.
Una de las atracciones principales de la hacienda es la torre vigía, la cual tiene casi 45 metros de altura. A la entrada de la torre los artesanos exhibían sus tejidos, todo confeccionado por ellos mismos.
La función principal de la torre era vigilar desde lo alto a los esclavos y los alrededores donde se encontraban las plantaciones por si ocurría algún incendio.
Al frente de la casa hacienda hay una gran campana que se encontraba en la torre y se tocaba al comenzar y terminar la jornada laboral de los esclavos.
