The Kokohead Botanical Garden in Eastern Honolulu.
Kokohead Botanical Park in East Honolulu on the island of Oahu, the main island of the Hawaiian Island chain.
This is my first post in this community, which is filled with interesting posts about areas all over the world. I live on an island where most people love being outdoors in the Pacific Ocean, hiking in the volcano mountains or playing at our white sand, black sand or green sand beaches. We have a favorite saying here:
Lucky we live Hawaii.
We live in a place which is boring to some, but exciting to others. It doesn’t have professional football, basketball or soccer. It has something completely different… awesome, powerful displays of nature. Which continually reshape our environment. Lava flows destroy lakes and pristine forests as part of cycle of life on a volcanic island. Huge volcanoes like Mauna Loa, the largest and most massive volcano on earth, which is active by the way… and earthquakes occur periodically LOL :)
But I digress, this is a trip I made to East Honolulu, the dryer, hotter side of the island. It’s a beautiful drive along Kalanikanaleo Freeway. Gorgeous sand and ocean on your right, as you drive East, and mountains and palm trees on your left. It’s hit, sunny, windy and there’s a beautiful blue sky which greets you every time you look up it. Sunscreen and a broad brim hat are a must. Along with some Gatorade or other similar electrolyte containing beverage. You will be sweating water and electrolytes, so remember to replace them both to stay strong and enjoy the trip. There are bathrooms at little parks which occur along the trip, so no worries about needing a bathroom. LOL :)
Kokohead is a botanical park with a dessert motif and I enjoyed the huge cactuses/cacti . Which were 12-14 feet tall at times. It was hot and dusty, but the temperature is 20 degrees cooler in the shade.
