Hello dear friends!
Even today, in this wonderful community, I want to share with you the photos I took during my hike near Arezzo. You should know that a dear cousin of mine lives in that area, so I took advantage of this holiday to visit him. It was he, knowing about my passion for villages and explorations, who led me to discover this place called Rapale, which is practically a hamlet of the municipality of Bucine in the province of Arezzo. It is located on a hill, about 500 meters above sea level, offering stunning views of the Chianti region and the Ambra Valley.
I had passed near this area before, but I don’t remember ever sharing photos of this place with you. Naturally, when you arrive here, the first thing that strikes you is the entrance gate of the village, with the church dedicated to San Miniato. But above all, there’s the remaining part of the castle, a beautiful example of Tuscan medieval architecture that, of course, has been modified over the years. Let’s say it transitioned from a defensive castle to a large noble residence.
It was so beautiful and exciting to get lost in the streets—or rather, among the stones—of this place. Incidentally, I noticed (for anyone interested) that right near the castle, there’s an agritourism that seems to host travelers.
As I mentioned, even though there have been various destructions in this area due to past battles, the village has been well preserved, and some parts of the walls are still visible.
This place didn’t give me the impression of being inhabited by many people. Probably some houses are used as vacation homes during the summer. I also noticed that other parts of the village are not in great condition—some areas are even partially collapsed.
Surely, during my walk, often accompanied by the lovely cats that likely thrive in these areas in a semi-wild way, I noticed, for example, that for hiking and walking enthusiasts, there are plenty of trails in this beautiful natural area of Tuscany.
I also read on a poster I found during my walk that every year, on August 10th, wine lovers can enjoy a wine-tasting evening here, likely combined with the night of the falling stars. I can confidently say this place is perfect for stargazing because it’s far from any form of light pollution, which is so common in cities.
So, friends, if you find yourselves near Arezzo, make sure to visit this beautiful village—it’s worth it! You can see everything in half a day. It’s a wonderful place that, in my opinion, blends history, culture, and natural beauty.
